Hey guys, I've already used the search function and read through a couple threads. I also went to the vfaq page for upgrading brakes.

My question is has anyone actually used the brakes from a 92'-96' Diamante. Do the calipers have the same part number as the 93+ dual piston calipers. If so, I'm assuming that the mounting brackets from the Diamante should also be compatible with a 1G. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

If so, I know it will be a lot cheaper to get a set of used Diamante Calipers ($30 a pair) vs. ($100-$150) a pair for DSM dual piston calipers.

Thanks in advance.

I've had trouble finding diamante brakes, seems like every time one hits the junkyard the brakes are the first thing to go.

I ordered rebuilt ones for a 93 awd from o'reillys, and once I get everything swapped around I'll turn in my 90 calipers as a core, so I'd only be out 30$/caliper. :thumb: Not like they know the difference anyway, plus it helps to have friends at parts stores :D

Awsome. Thanks a lot for checking on that for me Spidey. :D

I thought of doing the old switcheroo on the parts store too. My local junkyard has a set of Diamante brakes for like $20 bux if I pull them, so I'm gonna try and get my hands on them this weekend (if the weather permits). That way I can sit on them till I can afford the rotors and pads for front and back of the car.

Either which way, I can get the rebuilt ones and still pull the Diamante brakes and sell them on the trader for $150 like everyone else.

I just checked in CAPS and the Diamante LS(F16A) calipers are in fact the same part number as the 93+ AWD dual-piston calipers.

Hey I just checked CAPS and was unable to duplicate your findings.

The part number I found for the Diamante calipers was MB857838. When I checked what cars this part came on it only brought up the Diamante, Diamante Wagon, and NT 3000GT (1st picture below).

When I looked up the 93+ AWD calipers the part number was MB699451. When I checked the part applications for this it only brought up the 1GB AWD and the Galant VR4 (2nd picture below).

I'm not saying that the Diamante, 3000GT calipers won't work as I've heard of them being used in the past.

My concern is that if I purchase the Diamante Calipers:

A. Will the mounting brackets from the Diamante work on a DSM? (Assuming they will, if the calipers are the same)

B. Can I order 93+ DSM Rotors to use with them? (Dependant on if they're compatible)

A. Yes, the mounting brackets are the same part number.
B. Yes, according to CAPS the rotors are also the same part number so no worries.

After looking through CAPS I think I've found out what is different about these calipers.

The only part that is different between the Diamante and 1G DSM AWD calipers is the piston. The Diamante, and 3000GT use a different caliper piston than the 1G AWD DSM, and Galant VR4. What this difference is, I have no idea ;)

Thanks again. I appreciate the help Darksyne and Spidey.

Darksyne thanks for taking the time to clear this up for me. I really appreciate it.

Just to make you feel better. As I've posted before, I used the Diamante calipers, brackets and rotors when I did the swap. I was cheap at the time and grabbed clean used rotors and put some cheap autozone semi-metalic pads on figuring I'd get some good pads and rotors later when I had a few bucks. I did splurge on the rebuild kit and new clips and shims. The calipers and brackets I stripped and sand blasted before giving them a couple of coats of G2 caliper paint. That was almost three years ago and the fronts are still working great.

I bought everything for a 93 awd dsm, got brembo rotors, metal maxxis pads (iirc), and just got the calipers from o'reillys today. also splurged for some SS lines from SBR. For about 350-400$ more I could have gotten the baer kit, but I really didn't want to spend the extra cash on 17s when I just bought tires for my stock wheels. This setup should be more than fine.

My mistake on the calipers, I was going by the PNC which is not vehicle specific. I have since double checked the brackets and like Darksyne said, the brackets at least are the same part number.
