I am wanting to swap a complete turbo motor from a 95 GST into my 92 GS. I was wondering if it is possible to make the second gen harness and computer work function in my car, and how practical that will be.

Thanks

You know we tend to go the other way, 1st gen in a 2nd gen. Are you bored? In my opinion I wouldnt do it, although the harness could be midified to work you could just do a whole swap: engine, harness, PCM, MAF. why do you wunna do this.

The major issue to over come doing this swap would be the side engine mounts. On a 1g they are on the block. On a 2g they are on the transmission. This can be overcomed with some fabrication skills and or a decent amount of cash.

If your non-turbo car has the 4g63, then yes it can be done. With some work that is :) The easy way would be keeping the 1g head with the 2g block. One big question is would the transmission from a 1g bolt up to the 2g block???

Now if you have the 4g37 you will have a lot more to worry about than the basics!

Crank walk is over-rated...mostly due to heave pressure plates, clutch not adjusted properly and people who dont know how to drive a stick shift by riding the clutch.

Well, the current motor is blown up for some background. It is the n/a 2.0. The turbo engine from the 95 just happened to be one that a friend had. I know that the 6 bolts are the prefered engine, but this was the economical choice(maybe). So far I have no money in it. I knew I would have to modify the harness and Im sure that will be a pain.

I am curious about transmission working, and motor mounts. Would my 92 n/a 2.0 have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt crank? The engine I have has a flywheel, but it is from an awd car, and I understand that those might be different.

instead of doing a 95 swap, which has a smaller turbo, more history of "crankwalk", and lower stock tuning ceiling (due to turbo mainly). I would just swap in a 1g harness ecu etc. It should work better with all your existing bits better anyhow. So find a 91 eclipse in a junk yard and jack the harness and all the happy parts. The 1g turbo flows up to about 300hp or so anyhow. Plenty of fun. Where the 2g turbo is only good for about 250.

dont waste the time or energy! bad motor in the first place, too much work to make it happen, and just a bad idea in general!!

the 6bolt block can bolt up to a 2nd gen trans in a 2g car no prob but the other way round a 7 bolt block to a 1g trans in a 1g car im not sure....reason being i dont know anyone that would want to do that....the only differences i can think of is that the 7 bolt(2gen) uses 5 bolts for the bellhousing and the 6 bolt uses only 4...also like someone else had already stated the side mounts are changed between the block and trans......

There have been successful swaps of 2g transmissions swapped into 1g's. Modification is necessary.

OP, I agree that if your making this based off of an economic choice, it would probably be cheaper to find a used 4g63t on CL and swap that in.

how exactly is it an economical choice??? are you getting it for free from your friend or something??? if not i would rather go with the 6 bolt and call it a day...but thinking like that then there would be no variety in the dsm world

I have no doubt that the 1g setup would be a better choice. The reason I hoped that this would be the economical choice is that yes, I got the 2g motor for free. I knew there were some issues, and thats why I asked. I just wanted to see if anyone had done it, or how close to a direct swap it would be.
