I have been using seafoam in heavy equipment engines for years and I have seen it make dramatic differences in performance and idle quality. I recently had a problem with low power from my 91 talon. It felt like the computer was removing timing. Normally what I do is find a secluded spot because you will smoke down your whole neighborhood. Start the engine and let it get up to opperating temp. I remove a vacum hose and put it in the can and rev the engine to about 2500 rpm and suck the can dry. Shut off the engine and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then start it back up and run it down the road, and run it hard. This will remove a substantial amount of carbon build up from the combustion chambers. :thumb:

Ooooh thanks a lot asshat ;) That makes me feel 27 times better LOL Nah it def. made a pretty big difference I think. A lot smoother idle (which was fairly smoothe before but no jumpy idle or anything) Made it feel a tad bit stronger, made it a lot more smooth under normal driving.

I was scared to death that would happen to my car since its got 156k on the stock motor.
keep us updated if it works out, i have 142k on my motor id like to use it if you got good results and the smoking stops.

Just do it man. Each may have completely different results. It def. didn't hurt it for the worse on performance but I'm sure that theres still some in the egine becuause its smoking the same (color, and smell) as it was lastnight when I performed it.

Its def. not a good feeling though :( Does this mean I'm going to have to spend another 45 bucks on oil and a filter? :(

I wouldn't worry about it. Any residue you have in there is bound to be minor. By the way, what color is the smoke?

I just did the sefoam treatment. Put about half in my crankcase & ran it for 100 miles then sucked the rest of the can through the bov & fpr nipple on the intake mani, let it sit for 15 min. Started it up had a huge smoke show while sitting, reved it a bunch of times & got even more smoke. Went for a drive and it basically stopped smoking after a couple min. What did I notice after this? To tell you the truth nothing, car idles & runs the same as it did before. My car only has 45K on it so maybe thats why I can't see any difference.

So are we sure all the smoke is actually carbon burning off or is it just the seafoam itself burning :D

a greyish blue........ It never smoked before I added the seafoam. I just went out for a little spin and ran into my cousin and his GSR on my way home and we kicked them off and he said it wasn't smoking one bit at wot but as soon as I stopped it started bellowing out.

My plugs were fine, they just had some orange on them so I took some sand paper to them and sprayed them off with contact cleaner.

Usually smoke on deceleration can be valves/valve stem seals. You may have knocked some deposits loose that were accumulated and preventing the smoke before the Seafoam treatment. Greyish blue does indicate oil. If it is indeed valve seals, the good news is that you don't have to go into the bottom end to fix it.

Just for kicks, run a compression test to see what's up and also re-check the turbo for any shaft play. It's tough for me to tell without seeing it, but those two items should at least get you started.

This exactly....Well its been dark so I guess it had a bit more of a blue hue to it since it was dark....

Well to be honest with you, i thought that too. I ran half of a bottle through my car and it smoked a ton. Then i put it through a friends mustang, and not very much came out. I guess that it might be because he has a V8 and somehow that would make less come outWTF  .....But i don't know, i just assume it works!

After coming across this post, I ran to Advance autoparts, got 3quarts Mobil 1 extended Performance 1 quart Lucas Oil Stabilizer,a can of sea foam, 4 plugs. Got home put 1/3 in the tank,1/3 in the crank case before oil change, had 1/3 sucked through the bov line. This is on MazdaSpeed Protege with 57K miles with few mods. There was a lot of smoke, too much if u ask me. Shut it off let it sit for a while. Then took it out for a while to let it blow out that smoke.
To cut a long story short, the car is fairly new and I have not heard it idle or perform as well as it did after the oil change. Idle before fluctuated 800-950 now idle is 750 and holding. Acceleration is also GR8! I am gonna put it in Tsi and the Tercel.

How many miles have you put on it since the treatment?

When I treated my brothers horribly neglected truck it smoked for 100 miles plus before it petered off.

How blue is the smoke. Is it similar to the picture, but with a bluish tint or definetly blue/grey?

I'd have someone follow you on the streets and watch it durring different situations. IE: cruising, accelerating lightly, WOT, decel, idle, etc...

Also, as suggested, do a compression test.

Man its blue blue blue smoke... Its not smoking one bit under WOT or decel, just at idle... and yes, it resembles that pic of smoke from the amount of blue smoke coming out of mine. I guess I'm one of the unlucky few....

I hear they're a pain in the ASS! But they're fairly cheap ;) I took the PCV back out and sprayed it down with some carb cleaner and went and beat the shit out of it, it seemed to help a tiny bit. I guess I'm just goign to ride it out. It did this right after I got my car running again. it smoked for a good 3k and then I changed the oil and it seemed to stop.

I noticed the odd idle too. Do you think that maybe some seafoam is getting to the ICS? I might start forgetting to put some seafoam via vacuum line. Im gonna replace the ICS in my moms Avalon and see if that does the trick.

I used 2 cans in my 96 Dodge Ram. It's got 130K miles and was having trouble reving above 3,000rpm. At 3K rpm it felt like it hit a brick wall. I ran 1 can through the carb & put another can into the gas tank (tank was 1/4 full). I have to say that the Sea Foam I sucked into the carb didn't do anything. Yeah, it smoked etc, but the wall was still there.

After finishing the 1/4 tank of gas with the Sea Foam in it and changing the oil, the truck was back to normal.

I love driving around with gobs of smoke pouring out the tail pipe from Sea Foam, it reminds me of the Spy Hunter smoke screen. :)

I know this is an old thread but i need to know where to locate the vacum line on my 420a engine so i can use the seafoam ### pics would be great :D

Any line that runs directly to the intake manifold. A common line is the PCV valve line.
I used the PCV line, the #3 cylinder was soaked, the #1 was dead dry, and other 2 had a little. Not good distribution at all. Next time I'm going to try one of the TB ports or switch it around like someone else suggested.

And fyi, it did nothing for me. Emptied an entire can in there. The smoke is probably just the seafoam itself burning. I'm going to try again next oil change and see what happens this time if I can get it to ALL cylinders.:thumb:

I thought that could happen, so when I did mine I used 3 lines. One from the throttle body and two from opposite ends of the intake manifold.
