Vancouver,
Ok, this just started to happen recently, during the recent snow storm. When I start my car there's this loud screeching noise coming from the engine bay, but only for the first minute or two. When I turn off my air vents it goes away, but as soon as I turn on the air vents it goes on again. Also if I give it a little gas it gets louder and faster. Anybody know what the problem could be ? I tried to lubricate the belts, but I don't think that's the problem. I also lubricated the radiator fans a little, but that didn't seem to help either.

Turn the steering wheel to see if the noise changes, If so it's the ps belt. In your case I think it's the alternator belt but you should check both of them anyway. Make sure they're at the right tension, some belt dressing will help too.

belt dressing bad any mechanic will say get a new belt, if the belt is still good check tension. but i have a good idea pop the hood while it is makeing the noise and rev the motor while looking.

I just replaced all the belts about a month ago, that's why I was thinking it wasn't the belts. I'll check the tension on them again just to make sure. Also, I've already used belt dressing and that didn't help. I'll check the power steering tonight.

Just fixed this on my car. I took both belts off then started it to make sure it was a belt sqeak. When it was it put the belts back on and reset the tensions. They actually should be tighter than you think. Do the alternator belt first. Hope this helps.

when you tension belts you shouldn't be able to strum then like a guitar and play a note on them
you can tension like that but if you want maximum life they shouldn't play a C or anything

Problem solved, all I had to do was tighten my alternator belt.
