SBR 3500 Clutch Review

well Iv'e had the clutch for about two weeks now anfd it feels great holds good. still have'nt launched it yet but my one concern is that when i rev the car with it in gear with clutch pressd in the pedal vibrates. I ran this guy from a roll and i was in first, when I shifted from first to second, the clutch pedal vibrated like a mofo! I'm not sure if the clutch is slipping or what the hell is up with it. but other than that the clutch engages smooth and pedal feel is like stock.

Does the disc look just like that Comp picture that other guy posted or does it look like this disc?

RRE Clutch Disc

Trying to figure out of the SBR clutch is basicly the same as the RRE X-Clutch (no name clutch)

I think its basicly the same clutch but RRE's is a little cheaper. Hell it even says CC on the disc although I could have sworen it was an organic disc.

Trying to figure out what to buy for a replacement disc, I smoked my RRE one due to improper clutch adjustment ;)

OK Guys.. lets hear the Verdicts on this SBR clutch. its been a while now and I know most of you where in the break in period. :dsm:

Have you Launched the car with it? How did it do ? How is the pedal feel on it?
was easy to launch like the ACT's?

I am mostly I want to know how it went on 2G AWD but any feed back is good on this post

Thanks

Ok, I've had mine in for about a week and put about 400 miles on it so far. I really like it. Comparing it to my ACT 2100 the pedal pressure feels about the same to me. This clutch does feel much easier to modulate though. It has more of a feel of the factory clutch than my 2100 did, which is good because I get caught in traffic alot commuting to work. I haven't been too hard on yet though because I just put in a new tre trans and an act flywheel, so everything still needs broken in. The few times that I have run it hard, it seemed to grab nice and hard. After I change my tranny fluid this weekend I will get on a bit more and let everyone know. I am happy that I chose this clutch. (the 3500). :thumb:

went at it the other night against my cousins 2g awd. same exact mods on both cars. his stock clutch against my sbr 3500 launched it at about 4500k got the jump on him. 1,2 shift pulled on him some more. I came out on top. went back to back against him again no slipping what so ever. pedal feel is just like stock except it feels firm the ss clutch line is probably responsible for that. would highly recomend.

Yes that is the exact same disc.

I still have yet to launch mine, but i have beat on it and no slipping. I love this clutch! But like i siad, i havent launched it yet.

Quick question about the SBR clutch...

I had a ACT 2100 in my car, until it got fried :( I see that alot of the members now are talking about the SBR clutches and I'm curious about it.

Are these the best clutches on the market right now? Or are they simply good for racing applications? I have a Big16 in my car, and I'm not looking to push it any farther for practical purposes... I was happy with the 2100, but now I'm kinda pissed...

I really need to know what clutch would be the best for me to go with, in terms of life and good usage.

Thanks for any help,

Marty

so is the fact that it is a RRE Clutch Disk good or bad?

Some one was saying that the SBR clutch is manufactured by Spec?
the sbr clutch's are made by Competition clutch not Spec. call up sbr they will tell you. the RRE disk on the link does look like the SBR 3500 disk I was sent.

I have the RRE clutch too. On the RRE disc, it has an icon stamped into the metal that looks like 2 C's. I'm guessing that stands for Comp Clutch.

SBR says there disc is Carbon Kevlar and I thought RRE said organic. Who knows.

I like my RRE clutch though.

Well I talked to SBR and the guy told me that the clutch would feel like an ACT2100.

So this clutch is going to feel and act like an ACT2100 Grab like a 2600 how can you go wrong. Also the guy sad there is a car that had it for 60K miles. He also sad that it could
4** lbs of torque.

and to Jamal

Some one sad earlier that they had the Disks made for them (Special Specs).

I am ordering mine in the next 2days.. Man I hope this clutch pans out and is not a dud OMG

When you guys did the install, what else did you guys replace when doing the clutch? Did you guys use longer rods? replace ball n fork? etc..?? Because when I do my install (sbr 3500) I want to do everything when the tranny's out. Thanks!!

I had an ACT2100 for 60,000+ miles, but I just blew my tranny. So I got the SBR3500 because taking the tranny out is a pain so why not replace the clutch. My car has 104k so I thought it was best to replace everything so I don't ruin my new TRE tranny because of something stupid. I replaced the clutch line with a dss stainless one, new master cylinder and slave cylinder, new clutch fork and fulcrum ball, and an act streetlite flywheel because they are cheap and I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting mine resurfaced. I also put a washer behind the ball to shim it out a tad. Just a 1mm washer. I also put all metal bushing in for anything to do with the shifter so I don't miss any gears. I was shocked to see how badly worn the rubber ones on the shifter cables were when I pulled the tranny. This is alot of stuff and my credit card was hurtin' a bit, but it should be good to go in the long run.

hey thanks a lot! by the way, a quick question this is going to be my first clutch install, did you guys find it easier to drop the tranny or pull the whole engine out?

just drop the tranny, no need to pull everything out...

Out of curiosity, to what torque setting did everybody tighten their PP bolts to on the SBR 3500?
Thanks

22lbs is what is recommended in the chilton I have. But you have to remember that is for a stock pressure plate that doesn't take much to compress. I know mine took more than 22lbs to get it tightened so I just stopped when the plate was tight up against the flywheel.

And so far I am still liking this clutch. It feels like a clutch that could have came with the car from the factory, but with alot more bite to it. :thumb:
