Auladan said:I was given an XM Commander (who comes up with these names?) unit last Christmas, and I've yet had the chance to install it in to my Talon. Reason being, she still isn't driveable. But the moment she is I'm going to either install the unit myself, or have it professionally done. It's sat on my shelf for around 5 months now, and I'd really like to start using my Christmas present.
I favored the XM over Sirius when I first started to get in to the Satelite Radio Hype. I read reports all over the place, and every last one was on XM's side. Sirius was said to be losing money, they had worse quality, and probably wouldn't be around in a few years. I don't know what the case is now, but I'm still with XM. Heck, I've got their best unit in my room, I might as well, no?
Since the unit isn't installed yet I can't vouch for its quality, but I did ride in my brother's rental car, when his Firebird was in the shop (minor accident), and it had XM radio. The sound was excellent and had loads of stations. I just wish it had an Electronica channel. Next to no commercials either. Even though I already had XM by that time, the rides I took in that car sold me on it.
You can also listen to XM on their site, but I'm not sure how well that would actually compare to what one would hear in their vehicle.
You know absolutely nothing about the two companies. For 1 I do have XM, and you CANNOT listen to there stuff on there website. You can sample it and thats IT! SIRIUS you can listen to all day on there website. You can even sample for 20 minutes if your not a subscriber. XM's sound quality is garbage. SIRIUS streams in Dolby Surround Sound, which XM doesnt.
As far as losing money, they are both losing money like hell. Again SIRIUS will stream video sometime next year. SIRIUS has the NFL, NBA, and NHL. XM doesnt. XM has the name and got a year headstart. Look at DirecTV and DISH. They are practically even now.
It is your choice though. Im speaking from experience. I will be switching to SIRIUS at the end of the month!
