When installing the satelite radio you need to use an antena. How do you mount the antena without a cord running inside of your car? Can you hook it up to the factory? thanks I dont know much about audio stuff

Sat antenna are not the same as factory antenna... that's why you have to buy the antenna with the tuner. So, no, you can't hook it up to stock.

I've seen sat antennas with the ribbon type cord and the cord runs in side between windshield or rear glass and the roof. I suppse you can do the same between the rear hatch and roof.

How about calling a dealer/installer? one simple phone call is all it takes.

I went to one place but the guy was no help and I just thought it would be easier to ask here. If anyone has any pictures of their antennas could you post them? thanks

Ah, now i see why you PMd me.

iinstall is EASY!

mount antenna in its location, (clean it good or else scratches!!!) then place, open your trunk, there are two hinges, pull the antenna wire between them, now get a cheap coat hanger, open it up.

now go to the front, remove your sunvisor and drivers side a pillar.

carefull!!!!!!! pull the antenna wire thru your headliner to the front of the car, run it down the a pillar. then there should be some door rubber/weather stripping, just push the wire behind it. run under your dash, to whereever you mount your unit and your done!!

I thought Sirius was/is having massive financial problems? may have or are about to file for bankruptcy?

Last I heard XM is the only one of the two that is turning profit.

holy what the crack are you smokin?

Jk,

FAR from it, the NFL just signed a contract with sirius for Seven Years. (would they make that bad of an investment?)

in addition sirius has LOtsa money to back them up as well as the fact that in Quality they are superior to XM, (as stated by all the XM people that converted over)

i researched it ALLOT before i went sirius, A company like XM has the NAME. but not the quality, XM played commercials before on a service that people paid for, what a jack. :(

but honestly. just follow what your ears can hear.
i did. :)

Not smoking anything. What I mentioned were facts from nearly a year ago. I listen to finance, business, stock radio broadcasts. XM and Sirius was discussed in one of the programs.

Personally, the only radio I'd pay for is NPR and PRI. Otherwise, I don't listen to radio enough to warrant the need for sat radio. Neat idea... but it's got a ways to go before reaching mass appeal... nothing more than a trend for now.

oh no, i was just kiddin with you.

but the other thing is,

the phrase: time is money, money is time

if i spend my time between work and my home listening to commercials, i dont carefor it, id rather pay and enjoy my ride there.

Well you havent followed them recently then. SIRIUS has 790 Million dollars of cash on hand. XM is not turning profits as they have not even reached CFBE (Cash Flow Break Even) XM needs 3 Million subscribers to do this. At the same time they give most of there profits to GM because GM factory installs there equipment in there cars.

At the same time, the NFL, the Dish Network, and a lot of other people have just teamed up with SIRIUS.

Yes you are correct about a year ago this time SIRIUS was on the verge of bankruptcy, however this is not the case anymore. SIRIUS is starting to take a growth pattern similar to XM's last year. Dont forget SIRIUS is a 18 months behind XM. Sirius will also be streaming Video next year.

XM sucks. How do I know this? I have it in my car. Go to my gallery and you will see. SIRIUS' content is way better. How do I know this. You can sample there music on there website.

How do you I know all this information. When you have 50K invested in both companies you tend to watch them very closely. 20,000 shares of SIRIUS at .65cents and 1128 shares of XM at 6.00!!

XM Radio will be available on JetBlue flights soon. Other Airlines are planning on offering XM to their customers as well. I'd pick XM to come out on top in the long run because of their relationship with the Big 3. With almost all the radios in new vehicles being XM Ready, they've already got their foot in the door. For Sirius you need an aftermarket head unit that is Sirius compatible plus the kit... our just get the RF Modulated stand-alone (but then you won't have digital quality radio) That's why I have an XM Ready Alpine Head Unit, so I can get the Alpine Digital XM Reciever when I come back to the states, and actually enjoy the benefits of a DIGITAL satelite radio service. As for content, it all depends on what genre of music you prefer. When I tested Sirius I didn't find that they had as wide a range of classic and underground Hip-Hop as XM.

So if I get one of the universal tuners the quality wont be as good as if it goes through the head unit?
Goto an audio shop and listen on their sound board at the different kinds they have. I don't honestly think that the quality would be enough to warrant having to buy a complete new system.

Sorry.
But I agree that sirius owns.
I got mine and I love it.

XM started first and are still first fo now.

Sirius is also factory available on some cars (thank god!)

1 for xm for factory availability.

XM has better presence and name recognition.
Xm has been acknowledged as having better SQ while sirius EQ's their sound to sound better.
IMO advantage sirius (sounds better on factory systems an better on rf mod setups)

Programming price: advantage XM (reason for growth)

Better sat Sirius (high orbit rather than geosync works much much better at hight latitudes)

Listening to the same stre ams at home and in the car w/o another subscription

tie (dish network and sirius vs those mobile xm thingies)

adaptability: how dedicated are you to one particular brand?

I love clarion and Alpine both. Panasonic I can deal with. Kenwood Im not to hot on nor Pioneer. If you have a bunch of equipemtn from a brand that is one or the other you havea changer and will be upgrading head units only (like me) then that is a factor as well.
i have Clarion so i was most interested in sirius.

Programming: You decide

I kept dropping by my local shop that had both on the same sound board, and found that I more often found a song I liked on sirius than xm andthat I prefered their channel formats

either way it beats the heck out of listening to the kind of CRAP that passes for radio (particularly morning radio) these days.

I am going to go sirius as soon as I can get $ for my 935

apologies for an misspelling, my one year old is "helping" me type

Will do. Any recomendations before I go tomorrow.
As in?
I got a panasonic radio that plays mp3's and all other musical media types. I like having 100+ songs on a cd in folders that I can browse. Beats 15-19 songs per cd!

If I have to recommend anyone I like clarion because of the excellent quality I got out of my old drx-9575z. But second I will say panasonic. I like it (contary to others dislikes...;) )

Sirus or XM? Sirus hands down

One thing that disappoints me about XM is the small number of "Urban" stations... they have lots of interesting rock stations, but when it comes to "Urban" music the choice is limited.

Interesting thing about radios that are [insert gimmick here] "ready".

Back in the eighties, radios were coming out that were "ready" for some kind of safety warning crap. It was supposed to be able to bulletin-in traffic emergencies, natural disasters and who knows what all else.

I guess it never made it.

If Sirius or XM lose out, there's going to be quite a few stupid radios out there.

Meanwhile, any luck on pirating satellite radio? I don't mind the $10 a month so much, but I'm not shelling out $100 for the priviledge to pay them.

defiant:

you are thinking of RDS

it still works here in the US, problem with it was that it was never required of local broadcasters so few if any added it, and thse that did sometimes never set their clocks so everytime you changed to their station itwould mess up the clock.

I had an RDS Denon and I loved it, there were a few stations in Pensacola that did RDS so everytime I was down there it was easy to find the station format I was looking for.

There's a get rich quick idea right there. I'm sure someone in asia is probably working on it... probably see it in the back of Popular Mechanics soon. ;)

Just glad that there is a "Universal" XM Digital Receiver coming out that works with Alpine and Pioneer Headunits (since the Alpine specific receiver has been discontinued)

I was given an XM Commander (who comes up with these names?) unit last Christmas, and I've yet had the chance to install it in to my Talon. Reason being, she still isn't driveable. But the moment she is I'm going to either install the unit myself, or have it professionally done. It's sat on my shelf for around 5 months now, and I'd really like to start using my Christmas present.

I favored the XM over Sirius when I first started to get in to the Satelite Radio Hype. I read reports all over the place, and every last one was on XM's side. Sirius was said to be losing money, they had worse quality, and probably wouldn't be around in a few years. I don't know what the case is now, but I'm still with XM. Heck, I've got their best unit in my room, I might as well, no?

Since the unit isn't installed yet I can't vouch for its quality, but I did ride in my brother's rental car, when his Firebird was in the shop (minor accident), and it had XM radio. The sound was excellent and had loads of stations. I just wish it had an Electronica channel. Next to no commercials either. Even though I already had XM by that time, the rides I took in that car sold me on it.

You can also listen to XM on their site, but I'm not sure how well that would actually compare to what one would hear in their vehicle.
