if you really want to get the bang for your buck get mega squirt . then do all those mods when i had my gs i was in the same predicament you are in. other then boosting it or using mega squirt i would sell the car and find a gsx that needs some work ..

if you port the head and the intake manifold with a good intake you will get alot better throttle response then i would get a udp from ebay and take it to a a local machine shop and have them balance it. the machine shop should be able to port everything to. for a better price then a shop would.

the 420 isnt bad at all i seen a modded 420a pull on a gst <stock> in seattle a couples weeks ago. it just takes alot more time not money..

the exhuast arent that bad either. the header isnt once you get it welded.

people frown on ebay just cause its whole stock. its like going to walmart ..

and the right sparks plugs. (ngk) will actually improve quit a bit. but what ever you do stay away from the coil overs on ebay. go to usautoparts.com you can get a full sett for around 5 to 600

fast and reliable is right but he is in a budget like most people and instead of getting one thing he can get multiple and go from there.

My cars already had coilovers when i bought it. You said the headers are good once i get them welded, I dont understand where do they need to be welded? These are what I recieved from Ebay.

where do I need to weld?

where the bolts connect. or you dont have to. its up to you. i really didnt see to much of a improvement from the headers. what i was tryin to talk about the pipe that connects to the cat is threaded so i had to ghetto rig it with nuts and bolts untill i got it welded

Do a motor swap and start from there. Just giving you options. :)

Terrible idea. Take your bad advise elsewhere. Ebay parts will only get you soo far. But product quality will be really cheap. Reliability may become an issue. But for all those mods you can run boost and be steps ahead of all other n/a you will most likely come across.

My Bad, I didnt know until now how hard/expensive its to do a swap from 420a to 4g63. Good luck!

Agreed, you would be better of spending your hard earned cash on a motor swap.

No sir. This is bad advice too LOL. The 420a is capable of great power. The availability of parts is what makes it difficult. He isn't going to get a 10 car unless it in the 1/8. Our cars are too heavy to make super fast times in fwd.

It is cheaper to buy an awd than to swap a 4g into a 420a and you'd still have almost 2k left over to perform maintenance.

HOLD UP HOLD UP TIME-OUT. Terrible idea and TERRIBLE quote. Try reading the Original post again and this time read at a slow pace. Nobody said they wanted a 10 second car. I said im not looking for a 10 second car. I might be a Newbie but Im smart enough to know im not hitting 10 seconds in a RS, SPECIALY on EBAY parts.

But anywho. Heres a look at the Header. Unfortunately this is 2 days later so they already turned brown and are on there way to being blue. As far as installing them, all the bolts matched up, the down pipe was about a centimeter short from the cat but there was enough play to stretch them together so overall the fitment was great. Only problem was my o2sensor was rusted inside the bung so by the time I got it out I needed a new one.<img src="http://www.dsmtuners.com/gallery/files/1/0/6/8/6/1/hpim0053.jpg" alt="Ebay Headers Installed" />

dont worry, thats totally normal. i bought a similar one from ebay and it did the same thing. it actually will turn like a titanium color. if you use blue magic polish on it, and warm it up, in a day it will turn back to a chrome color LOL. i thought that it was funny when that happened.

As far as EBAY parts go, i have a short shifter, CAI, Headers and catback exhaust (N1 style), obx radiator hose kit, DNA strut bar kit (front and rear). non ebay parts is MSD Ignition coil w/ msd 8mm spark plug wires. with this setup, i can keep up with the 2010 V6 Mustangs. all of this you can install yourself with some basic knowledge. i totally schooled a 350z, 2 S2000's, 2 miata mx-5's, a 98 Camaro, and a 3G V6 Eclipse in autocross in whitehouse jacksonville, fl. when you buy ebay though, just keep looking for the same part and you might find it cheaper. =) ohh dont forget about HID kits. if you have any questions email me at [email protected] ill help you out to the best of my knowledge.

thats what my set up looks like right now minus the obx radiator hose.

some guy on here swaped a srt4 motor into his N/T for about 2k

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/hangout/307399-what-do-you-think-2g-srt-4-swap.html

you dont have to run the same manifold, how he did his was different but the actual srt4 manifold should fit under the hood like people were saying in that thread

:ohdamn: The only problem with this is there is no proof that one of these swaps has ever worked. Sure at one time he posted pictures of it in the middle of the build, however, no completed pictures and him not following up on the questions at the end usually means it was never completed. It is a ton of work (from what I can guess) and there seems to be no good way to get it all under the hood. You would have to cut the hood and even the firewall and it would take serious modification. Plus he "said" the build could be done for 2000 and then told everyone that his friend gave him his srt4 motor and another friend gave him the turbo off a gsx. Not many people can get an srt4 motor for free so no it wouldn't be only 2000 bucks. Not trying to hate on this dude but untill I see video and some dyno numbers showing that this swap is worth all te work and expense I don't see it as a "affordable" option.

To OP: To get back on topic... Auto part stores have a special spray paint for headers thats a good option too. I thought it looked cool at first when it turned brown and then blue but after a while it starts to look like crap. You can look at the pictures of the 420a im rebuilding in my pics and see how that one looks. If I wasn't building for a turbo I would paint mine.

i personal opinion is dont do nos. i dont believe the internals can handle nos unless you do it not often. you can get exhaust and intake but you probly wont notice. i had that on my 420 but i then got my car for the reason of not having enough power. the nice thing bout having a exhaust was it purred real nice

The stainless steel in Ebay exhaust systems is usually of lower quality and will eventually rust, although it will take ages to rust through. It's a little late since you've already installed it but I would have recommended is giving it a few coats of high temp paint to prevent that. Plus I think a matte black set of headers/exhaust tip looks pretty damn good. Aside from that the only other things you have to worry about with ebay exhaust kits is fitment and weld quality. Sometimes the bends aren't exact and can make installation way harder than it should be. As for the welds it's pretty rare but I've seen welds break on ebay headers and flanges snap off exhaust piping.

If you want a nice exhaust for cheap off ebay i got a JVT racing exhaust all stainless for like 120 shipped! mine was all rotted out so I figured if it sounded like garbage I would buy a higher quality muffler from Tanabe, Greddy, HKS and have a shop weld it on but i LOVE the way it sounds not ricey at all. sounds almost identical to the green fast and furious eclipse from the first movie jus no turbo LOL. I also got an under drive pully for $40 and havnt had any problems with it. Good luck tho! and CI motorsports is a great place to get parts too!

Well its not like imma try to pull on a evo or something, i pick and choose my battles. But I do understand what your saying. I wanted to avoid boosting ### im really not that eager to race. just wanted some extra for my own pleasure. seems i have no choice

Even with the MODs SpawnedX listed, a Dodge Caravan will probably pull away from you with no problem.

FYI, watch for oil leaks. 420A looove to leak, naughty girls they are.

Here here. Head gasket's been leaking oil on the DD since 2003....around a quart every 500 miles. On the plus side, the chassis is 100% rust-free. LOL

Yes oil leaks! mine leaks about 1/2 quart a week (400 mile drive a week). It somewhere behind the engine were you cannot see. I keep a quart or so of oil in the trunk if im driving my car alot.

To the op, just wrap the headers when they turn brown. I have ebay headers and the look like crap after a year. Im planing on wrapping them to hide their ugliness. Other than that, most of what u want from ebay, its going to work.

agreed on header wrap, this will hide the brown, blue discoloration, and help keep underhood temps down, which will help keep your aircharge cooler and thus denser. Not that we are talking about the temp change making a big difference, but when your options are limited, every little bit helps.
