SAFC2 question

I guess some people missed that he said he is getting 12 mpg. I was getting around 13 mpg when i upgraded my Fuel pump to a Walbro 255. After i put on a AFPR, my mpg increased a lot. Returning used fuel or pushing more fuel than needed that isn't combusted goes out the tail pipe. Idle & cruise suffer a lot. WOT does not.

I think I've found the issue.. when I was putting the side panel back on my console I noticed some more taped up wires at the very bottom of the harness and it happened to include the top ECU bracket (where the o2's and ignition are). I'm disecting now and it's not making me happy at all.

As I'm looking at the ECU pinout in the SM - For some ungodly reason both O2's are jacked to the ignition wire? I'm going to take it back to original map and see where it goes.. Just one more thing for you to check when you buy a used DSM i guess. Will post back when i run outta daylight.

No, we caught that part. You can see by the nice technical FPR over run debate we had a couple posts up. By the way, I love those types of debates. :hellyeah:

Anyway, the 255 pump is going to drop your gas mileage because of the overrun, but not by 12 or 15 mpg. If you see, his fuel trims are all but maxed out. This is causing most of the problem.

If we get the O2 sensor problem straightened out, that should take care of most of the problem. But, you are correct, an AFPR would definitely be my next purchase.

Let me know how you make out. In your second log, I see that your idle was much higher than it was the first time. Was it fully warmed up when you pulled that log? Either way, it really doesn't matter since you might have found the problem.

Typically, I'm not on over the weekends, but I'll try and jump on and see how you are progressing.

Cool, I appreciate it man. I'm inside to get the camera to take a picture of this cluster-####. I've got a 190lph, I however do plan to get an AFPR since i do have a spare 255LPH sitting in the garage.

So, to be direct. Why would anyone loop wires from port 92 (Ignition Switch - IG) to the Front O2 then from the Front O2 to the Rear O2. I'm also noticing a 2nd wrap up around another sensor but that's a different day and doesn't come near my problem at hand.

k, cleaned up the harness and still no luck. kind of starting to look worse heh. bank 1 is stuck at .32-.34 volts and wont go passed there. Now, if i try to hook it up the old existing way it doesn't want to show any voltage at all.

K so port 92 seems to be misleading on most diagrams as Ignition Switch - IG. It's really a sensor ground. Same question though, why would the signal wire be tied into the signal ground? Now the O2 isn't reading right the way it was rigged nor the way it should be "stock". Any idea's?

LOL, I hear ya. Not much else could be said other than since the sensor ground has been tampered with and could've just lightly toasted the ECU?. on the off chance I know we eat o2 sensor's so mines still under warranty. Gonna test the o2 it's self and see how that's goes and do another BLT while I'm there. Lovely way to spend my vacation.

If I were to get a wideband this issue would still need to be fixed, yeah?

Yeah, since replacing the narrowband O2 with a WBO2 isn't the greatest idea for a couple reasons. Some WBO2's, like the AEM UEGO, don't have a compatible narrowband simulation for our ECU's. The other reason, is that the sensor is to close to the hot side of the turbo and the additional heat will reduce the lifespan of the sensors.

Well, thanks for everyones help. I still can't locate the problem. I've ordered an AFPR, WBO2 and a new O2 Sensor. I'll post up once everything's installed properly! Thanks again, world of info in this thread for future users and debaters.

Sorry haven’t had chances to help out more! I've been dealing with problems myself, almost totaling out my GS-T yesterday.

I wish I would have though of it before, but I have an extra wideband and new O2 sensor I could have sold you cheaper.

Well, once you get things in there correctly, let us know what you get and I’ll do my best to help you out.

Actually, injector size doesn't have anything to do with the need for an AFPR. It's a fuel pump upgrade that will dictate a need for an AFPR. Anything that flows more than a rewired 190lph pump will require an AFPR. With the 190lph and lower, it's not necessary.

Any luck with the wiring? I'm guessing Steve missed this thread, so I'll shoot him a PM and see if he can stop by and lend a hand.

The description of pin 92 in the FSM that is floating around (like on the Manual CD) is wrong. The correct description for pin 92 is sensor ground. You note that in the 96 diagrams that ECMLink posted pin 92 is correctly shown.

In your pictures it look like the white wires from the O2 sensors go to the correct locations, the braid shield surrounding them should go to the sensor ground.

Why is the inside of the car so rusted. That that car flooded in the past?

naw boss, i live on the coast. salt water breeze = crap for metal. noted about the wires. i realized they were stock once someone was nice enough to post a pic for me. it honestly looked like a hack job. I'm waiting on the AFPR to come in atm to see if that clears anything up. Thanks for posting. I always look for your 2 cents! I'll continue to update on this thread as progression works and definitely not leave it open.

Little update.

Finally got around to installing the AFPR, I have to say it's one of the easier upgrades I've ever done on this thing. On the other hand. Definitely get push-lock. Extremepsi.com's install kit is bleh. Wasn't to difficult but they could've done a much better job. On the flip side. I think my front O2 is fried from the rich condition as there's little reflection to the read outs. Good ole advance "can't find where I bought" the old O2 and like a dumbass i keep all my receipts in the car and they're on thermal so they're ghosted now. Once I can replace it, I'll post again. Thanks again to everyone who's helped this far.
