Toronto,
Okay so just really quick, with the supporting mods that I have, air fuel ratio gauge, volt gauge, and SAFC 2 I should be able to lean my car out a little bit to gain a bit more preformance for my 2G NT, because I have read they come alredy rich.

I would like to know what other mods I would need to gain more performance for my NT. I'll be going turbo eventually keep that in mind.

Also has anyone used that Gauge bezel for Their SAFC 1/2 that mounts it where the vents used to be above the radio? Any complaints?

Well the A/F guage is useless for tuning with and without an EGT probe and gauge how are you gonna tell if your leaning it too much??

With out a wideband oxygen sensor and some way to log data from your ECU I wouldn't touch anything.

You would be far better off making power with N2O or a turbo kit.

Can you have an air/fuel gauge on a N/T? That is a stupid question, but for some reason I have only thought that they were for a turboed vehicle. Do you have to have anything else to make it work or will just the gauge do?

So, people dont' adjust the fuel curves of NT's to make them go faster, and cause the ECU to advance the timing?

I should have been more specific. I have a shop that I go to dyno and tune my shit, but they have the dyno pak, and the logger. I just want to know if the SAFC 2 will be a worth wild investment right now before I go turbo (turbo coming with in the year) and will it help the car run better? Or do I go out and buy cam gears and advance the timing that way instead?

I realize that turbocharging and N20 are the way to go for power, and I'm headed down that path, but I want to tune what I got while I'm saving for my turbo. I can get the EGT probe if its required to tune as well.

P.S. aaronm_2003 you can have a air/fuel gauge on anything with an o2 sensor (correct me on exceptions)

you can have an air fuel ratio on our n/t cars,i got one,but yeah they are basicly useless unless you get wideband and one of the air fuel gauges that measure the actual volts.before an safc you should consider an underdrive pulley for good gains and yes safc will help,it's good for bout5-12 hp if it's tuneed right on our nt's

you need a wideband b/c it tells you real time a/f. those cheap ass things they call a/f gauges are nothing more than for looks. if you were to use one of those on a car with forced induction, by the time it told you you were running too lean it would be too late, b/c your motor would probably already be gone. so basically wideband=real time a/f ratio ; "a/f gauge"=delayed unaccurate a/f ratio

Posted this question regarding the SAFC2 and wideband O2 sensors at the newbie forums (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164394) and was told that The SAFC2 doesn't need a wideband O2 sensor to work but would help in tuning it. Does this mean that after tuning the SAFC2 I should swap out the wideband sensor or should I just leave it there?

you dont need a wideband to use the s-afc, but if your going to be making any crucial changes to the fuel map, then i would highly recommend one. what the wide band does is give you real time a/f readings. so as you make a change with the s-afc you can instantly see what kind of changes it had on your a/f ratio with the wideband. so when someone tells you, you dont need one for the s-afc to work thats correct b/c you can change your fuel settings w/o the wide band, its just not real smart. you should use a wide band with any kind of fuel controller wether it be a piggy back as the s-afc or a full stand alone. as for leaving the wide band in, thats up to you. i'm getting ready to put my turbo kit on, and i'm keeping my wide band in, that way i always know if i'm too rich or lean, and i can make changes at any time. but its up to you.

1fastRS, that was a very clear answer. Thanks so much.

BigRand, hope you didn't mind me posting my question on your thread.

i'm glad i could help. i tend to ramble so i wasnt sure how clear it was. i just wanted to get the point across that either one works w/o the other, but a wideband is invaleuable when messing with fuel.if you have any other questions e-mail me and i'll be glad to help as much as i can.

Be989, no prob, that answered my question perfectly. See I have a shop that will help me tune my car, and they have the wideband a/f gauge and data logger, so thats where I would tune it, I just wanted to know if I would see any horsepower gains from doing that, and to my understanding it should be about 5-12hp or something like that. But I'm not sure if that is correct for an N/T.

Also I was wondering if anyone has any tips on tuning an N/T with the SAFC2?
