Anyone know about using 3rd Gen RX-7 16x8 wheels (225/50/16 tire) on a 1G Talon/Eclipse/Laser???

what about "back spacing"?? caliper clearance?? or any other issue??

thanks...

local dsm guy i met had them on his 1g, I think he might have had wheel spacers on there, but probably not...

Not sure about the exact size, sorry. I just remember reading about it when I was researching wheels for myself. From what I can recall the number wasn't that big, I guess you should be fine with 10mm, at least on the inside.

The guy I bought my fd rims from had them on his 91 GSX using 1/4" spacers in the back in combination with grinding the lip on the control arm about 4-5 inches on either side of the bend. Try bolting them up on the rear (don't torque them down) and you'll see what needs to be ground down. I test fit them without grinding and the 1/4" spacer was just a bit too small, I'll get around to doing the grinding as soon as the car is back up and running.

you may want to consider eibach pro-spacers.. they offer much more spacing than the standard 3mm / 5mm spacers. and also have studs/hub centric bores. which will allow for a trouble free setup.

I just finished installing the rx-7 wheels. I had to grind the lip on the rear control arm almost down to flush. The critical area was from right behind the bend to about 2-3 inches from the back of the hub. That's where the rim would contact without grinding. Now they're installed with 1/4" (~6mm) cheapie spacers that leave the rims hanging just a smidge too far out to have any contact with the hub in the center. Hubcentric spacers are on the list for the future, though I don't have any real worries as the guy who sold me this setup ran an 11.2 at 129 on it the night before he started parting his car.

Oh, and not all dsms are heavy... mine has about 300 pounds out of it now, and that was just the free stuff. Still stock interior minus backseat, well, it will be once I find the hatch leak once and for all and can put the rear stuff back in :(.
