im looking to get 3rd gen rx-7 for my 1g. when i started reading up on them i found that you need wheel spacers. what the hell are these things, and why do you need them? thanks for the help tuners

Wheels differ in size in four fairly obvious ways (and a few less obvious): diameter, width, lug spacing, and offset. A quick google search tells me that 3g RX7 wheels are 16x8, 114.3x5 lug spacing and 50mm offset. That's 4mm more offset than stock. They might actually fit with a 225 width tire but I do not know the clearance issues on a 1g DSM.

Edit: Oh yeah, spacers reduce offset.

so what your saying is that with out the spaces the rims would be too far into the wheel well and not fit right? What if i get these "spacers" will i then need tuner lugs because that would be less threads the nuts would be holding on to?

thanks alot

"Too far in" in this case is only 4mm more than stock or about >...< that much. That's why I say you might not need spacers.

If you did opt for 5mm spacers, you would probably need to replace your studs with some that are about 5mm longer.

cool, from what i learned from a quick search is that you will need the spacers unfortunitly and they cost 60 bucks & some change from h&r springs. thanks alot for the help man :thumb:

they are 4 mm futher in plus one inch (because they are 2 inches wider than stock, half of that out half in). on the rear, the wheel will hit the rear trailing arm without spacers. they fit fine with 5/16" spacers which can be gotten off ebay for about 20-30 dollars for all four. with this setup, 225's fit fine and some 245's (i know the hoosier a3s04's won't fit). with 15mm spacers all 245's should fit fine, make sure to check the clearance on the outside of the wheel at this point. also, if going with 15mm spacers, go with the h&r as they come with the longer studs and are also hubcentric. also, you will need lug nuts that match the taper of the rx-7 wheels.
i have these same wheels for autocrossing with hoosier a3so4 245/45/16 tires.

EDIT: with the 5/16" spacers, i believe i still got 10 turns on the lug nut which is enough, so if you go this route you should not need longer studs, but be safe and check how many threads you get for yourself.

first off thanks for the input these rims are sick on DSM's and i want to run them

anyways.....if i wish to run the 225 i only need the 4mm spacers? where exactly do the spacers go? are they hard to install. im pretty postive its not harder then the transmission i just swaped out but i like to have an idea about what im getting into so i have all parts needed to put it together in a few hours instead of a few days.

thanks tuners
