Hey guys Im picking up some RX-7 rims for my 1g to replace my extremly heavy Konig's. I didnt really know where this topic would fit so i know this area gets the most traffic.

What exactly do I need to use them?

I know I need studs I believe and spacers.

Any help would be dope.

Thanks!

just spacers.

Kev man you asked me liek a billion times what you need.

7/16th wheel spacers

52mm wheel studs

The reason you need the wheel studs is b/c theres not enough engagement with the wheels and spacers for the lug nuts to go on and be safe. If you wanna do ti ghetto and risk your wheel coming off thats fine but do things the right way.

And for whoevers lookin for pics of the FD wheels heres mine on a 92 Laser AWD

I ran H&R 25mm spacers on my 90 TSI and had excellent luck with them. They have the studs built into them so you bolt them on to the hub and bolt the wheel to the spacers. Check the classifieds for spacers. The spacers make your car look nasty without sacrificing safety. Good luck and have fun:thumb:

Hmm, I just grabbed some of those wheels off ebay. I didn't know they needed spacers. The rims themselves clear, do you need spacers just to get the tires to clear? I could probably just turn up some washer type spacers on the lathe right?

Well, if washers were good enough why do H&R and other companies bother making spacers?

It's already mentioned in the thread, you need spacers and studs to be safe.

H&R spacers come with studs. Starting at $50 a pair for 5 mm. Thicker they are the more expensive they get... up to something like $120 a pair.

I didn't say I wanted to use washers  . I was talking about washer "TYPE" spacers. I can only guess that's what H&R's selling you. It will be easy considering I'm a machinist about every three days and in the mean time I'm an engineer. So I'm sure deciding how to make some spacers shouldn't be too hard, j/k.

Where's the best place to get just the studs? Got to be something generic and cheap. I mean really.

My main question was why are we doing this? I haven't mounted my Nitto 555's on these rims yet but I fit up just the wheel and it seemed tight but OK. Is it just that the bulge of the side wall is enough to rub?

I had to grind the lip off the rear "trailing arm"(?) on my 90 AWD in order for my 225/50s to fit. And they still rubbed every time I went around a corner at any speed. Why cut the car up when you can do it right with spacers? The smaller width spacers from H&R come with new lug studs that you have to press into the hub, and the wider ones have studs built into the spacer.
