Hi, my passenger side axle is completely stuck in the hub. I have the tranny out and had to cut the cv boot by the tranny to get it out and I have also beat the living crap out of the hub.

So, should I remove the lateral control arm (long one from top to bottom), and bring the whole thing to a press, or should I heat the sucker up with an oxy acetelyne torch (if I can get my hands on one), or option three would be put the axle back in the tranny and drive the car to a shop with a ripped cv boot and have them do it.

Thanks for the help and I have used over a can of pb blaster and have tried using a 7 ton gear puller pushing on the axle but I cant get it to move more than the 1/8th inch that I did - I need more counter leverage than what I can produce.

Ryan

ps I plan on replacing the axle and also the hub assembly if needed.

Well I can't say I have the answer.

But I can tell you I have 3 cans of pb outside, along with a can of liquid wrench, and two busted breaker bars... So I feel your pain.

I found a salvage yard tonight, with three 1g dsm's... Appearently all passenger side "suspension products" are in good shape. I'm going to look tomorrow. I'll keep an eye open for any extra stuff that you may be able to use.

I've been using one of those to try and push the axle through (7 ton one) and it did no good, even with propane heat. I'm not sure exactly how i can pull the whole hub assembly with that though... or are you just saying for the axle.

Lets just say, when I have to do my front hubs, I had to get one of the axles removed with a torch. I had to take the whole assembly off and cut away enough of the axle so that the entire hub bearing assembly could be removed with the axle inside of it. It of course required a new axle.

It's kind of a misnomer. It's more of an axle pusher than a hub puller. It has worked very well for me to push the axle out of the hub. A BFH is still required to extract the hub assembly.

And your axle was rusted so badly that the hub puller wouldn't budge it? Damn. I've heard of stuck axles but assumed it was motstly due to lack of access to the right tools. I've heard of people having to cut the axle, grind the axle joint to reduce the circumference, and pull the hub and axle together out of the knuckle.

Ive even tried pounding the crap out of the hub with the axle in to get the hub and axle out as one piece, since the axle pusher didnt work. That does no good, so am I looking at removing the whole suspension and using a 60 ton press to push that stuff out??

Honestly I replaced mine. A bit over 200 bucks for a new axle and hub assembly. It wasn't worth, to me, the insane amount of hassle, then again, I couldn't even get the hub bolt off, had to cut through it
