Ok so what started off as an easy brake pad replacement turned into this. I found out that my front right brake caliper piston was frozen so I still need to replace that. After that I found out that I had a bad wheel hub so I ordered a pair of those and they are still sitting in my garage because I cant get the hub off. After trying to get the hub off with a hub puller I ended up mushrooming in the end of the axle so I am having a new axle shipped to me now. After that I found out that the bushing on the tie rod end was bad and of course you can't just order the bushing so I had to replace that. And now I am still back to my dilema of the fact that I cannot get that wheel hub off of the axle. I have tried almost everything except taking it to a press or getting a oxy torch out. Since I don't have access to either of these I am most likely just going to save myself the hassle of getting that hub off and just replace that spindle inbetween the hub and the axle. The only problem is I don't know what the correct name for it is and I am still trying to find out a price for it.

Here is a picture of the part that I am talking about.

Or if anyone has any other ideas of possibly cutting the axle with a sawzall or something like that please let me know.

Mitsubishi just calls them "knuckles".

MR223628 - Left hand knuckle
MR223629 - Right hand knuckle

That's a piece you're going to want to buy used. New, they're $265.22 a piece.

I dont know how much farther i can get with a hub puller. The one I was using was a cheapy one from autozone for like 20 bucks that is supposed to handle 5 tons. I ended up putting a 7 foot pole on the end of my breaker bar attached to the end of the hub puller and was working it for a good 30 minutes and didn't see any movement at all except for my axle getting mushroomed. What do you guys think if possibly I can get access to the axle behind the wheel hub if i pull it out enough and just use a sawzall to cut it in half?

i had my hub seize to my rear axle. I ended up pulling and replacing the axle and the hub. I did the same thing as you. I used a puller and mushroomed the end, even with a 1/4" steel plate over the end. I also tried the torch. It might work, but it didn't for me. Just replace it all.

PB Blaster is your friend. Also you can buy a handheld torch. Like the ones some plumbers use. Buy the head and get a map gas tank for it. Map gas burns hotter. Spray it with PB and let it sit for a while then hit it with the torch.( BE CAREFULL BECAUSE PB IS FLAMABLE) Then try the puller. Try taking a chisel and driving it in between the mounting surface of the spindle and bearing surface. Be as carefull as you can not to damage the splindle mounting surface and get a BMFH and wail the hell out of it. If you do scar the spindle surface you can carefully smooth it out with a grinder. I have had to do this on many fullsize Dodge 4x4s with great success. It may also jar the axle enough for you to use the puller to pop it off. Hope this helps some. Travis

if you unbolt the hub from the spindle and break the axle at the joint can you pull the axle and hub through the spindle? I am having the same issue and am just going to replace it. I already have new axles but i can buy new hubs.

I heated mine up with map gas sadeline gas BMFH for over an hour and even put it in a press for 2tons and it bent the freaking machine!!!!! These axles are not coming out of my hubs LOL.

You can't unbolt the hub from the spindle until the axle has been removed. It's impossible to access the bolts for the hub with the axle still in place.
