Rust fix.

A small rusty spot appeared on my 2g strut tower. Should I just grind it out and fiberglass repair it or what? I know these cars are fous for it so I know done DIY ideas are out there. Thanks guys.

Here is the bad news: if a rusty spot appeared on the top of your strut tower it means the 2 other layers under it are rusted. The ONLY way to repair it correctly is to CUT OUT ALL the rusty metal and weld in new metal. If you try to fix the rusted tower any other way it will just come back worse! Fiberglass is not a solution for a structural area such as the strut tower.

We can help you more but you need to do a couple things first:

i. Post photos from the top and from inside the wheel well.
ii. Remove the tire and poke around with a screw driver and report back.

I don't even trust fiberglass as a bumper. No way should it be on anything structural.

I would use butt end of the screw driver. Mine has surface rust, chipping peeling not all way through. At work now post pic, later.

I recommend you cut out all material with rust and WELD new metal in. If you plan was to fiberglass it your better off just leaving it alone.

Cut out old, weld in new.

While on the topic of rust......

- Pull off your side skirts and be prepared for a horror show.
- Check the rear trailing arm mounting points.

If it is in the strut towers it is usually in the other two locations.

Lol I just pulled my side skirts off because one broke off because of the pins breaking. Replaced the pins but there was very little rust under there. Good news to me. I'm just gonna leave it alone til I can find somewhere that'll repair strut mounts.
