Rust benefits: Paint my muffler???

Quick question for everyone... I'm taking the stupid fart can off my 97 GS and replacing with the stock exhaust. I live in MA and FL and stuff rusts QUICK. Would there be any reason why painting my new muffler with clear high temp paint would cause me problems? Would it actually protect against rust? I'm not doing this for looks, only for function. Please educate me. Thanks!

I would worry about the piece of crap stock flex section rusting before the muffler. If you're that worried about it, just get stainless.

i would get stainless if i were you. it will hold up better than stock and look better too, and you can get them at a pretty good price now also.

There is no point in painting your exhaust to reduce the effects of rust. If you're that worried about rust it's time to invest in stainless steel exhaust.

Exhaust systems are pretty much built to deal with rust. Painting one will make it stink like you won't believe. If it's aluminized, it'll only hold up for about a decade. And if you've not gotten a new car by then, it's time for a life inventory.

I painted my cat-back with high temp 1200 degree paint for this reason, no it hasnt burnt off and nope theres no rust yet

You can only paint the outside of it, correct me if I am wrong but exhausts usually rust from the inside out because of condensation in the pipe. Salty air + condensation = rust

you can try drilling a couple of small holes like they did on chargers and challengers back in the 60's to give the condensation somewhere to escape out, but I would not worry about it.
When it rusts just go get another exhaust system made for 100 bucks
