Well my car all the sudden started to run rich. My air/fuel guage says so...

It just randomly started. No matter what throttle i am at 1% or 100%, the guage shows im running rich. The little line doesnt go back and forth like it used to. Sometimes when i start the car the RPMs go very low then come back up. Like its bogging down. I have an SAFCII but it isnt tuned for the car just yet and i didnt mess with anything. So what could be causing my problem? Its starting to affect my mileage. A 1/4 tank of gas would get me about 80-90 miles. Now it gets me like 50-70.. Im afraid to drive my car now just incase its something serious..

So what could be my problem?

I can provide any info. Pictures or maybe even video.

Well hooked up the boost leak tester. First of, my MBC was leaking. there is a little whole in this screw to it, it was leaking air, should i replace that? Its like a perfect circle hole, like it was meant to be there.. We unhooked that and did the test again. Then we found a leak in some of the hoses from the BOV to the intake manifold. We re-clamped those and that was taken care of. We test it again. I have a MAJOR leak in my lower IC piping. So i JUST bought a brand new metal lower IC piping. After that is taken care of we need to find the other leak. I heard one up towards the intake manifold, but could not find it. Might be something from the throttle body. We will have to see, it was hard to hear the leak over the IC piping leak. Im hoping that its the problem. Still thinking that it isnt. Might have to get a new MAS. Only reason i think i need a new MAS is because i idle running rich... EDIT: I just ordered a new MAS. When we did the boost leak test, we unhooked the MAS and forgot to plug it back in. I drove without it plugged in and i still ran the same. So im guess my MAS does not work at all. Would faulty wires be a problem or would the CEL pull detected a wiring problem?

I have another problem. My car is idling REALLY weird. When i start it, it will go up to just over 1k rpms, then drop and stall, or drop and just before it stalls it goes back up. Then down a little, then up, then down, then it stays in one spot... Should i mess around with my BISS or what? Ill take a video of this..

You found you primary issue. Don't monkey with your idle until you fix it. You will just be chasing your tail until you actually install the new pipe and remedy the major boost leak. Boost leaks cause all sorts of idle issues.

The "one up towards the intake" could very well be the throttlebody seals.

How much do throttle body seals run? Are they like a universal part or pretty specific to the car?

Ok. Got a new lower IC pipe and took care of that leak. We also took care of a small hose leak where the bost controller hooks up. I even bought and replaced the MAS and im still running rich! Its running a tiny bit better but still running rich. We have another leak coming from the BISS though? How am i supposed to fix that? On a good note, the car holds preasure better and the new blue IC pipe looks sweet :thumb:

I would also like to tune my SAFCII, i think it might help. I have a guide to help me, but for some reason i cannot set my Ne-Points at 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 4.5k, 5k, 6k and 7k like i want. For some reason the points will only go up by 200. But only increase about 400 each time tops. And i can set 12 Ne-Points? That cant be right can it? Any help is appreciated.

All boost leaks are fixed and i put in a new MAS and im STILL running rich... Now what:cry:

Its running a little better then before, but its terrible when im vacuuming. But when spooling up 4psi+ i start to run not as rich. But when im idling and vacuuming, im still running rich. Any ideas? Is there some fuel part that could be bad that would NOT throw a CEL? Its like im close to perfect when im boosting, but when im not fuel is just being dumped.. I would like to get this fixed fast. Big road trip coming!!

you could have a defective fuel pressure regulator, or maybe too large of injectors

or maybe there's another reason you wouldnt be getting enough air in.

but you know it's either too much fuel or too little air.

edit: how do you have a cold air intake on a car with a turbo? That turbo gets pretty hot and i dunno how that air would stay cool after hitting it.

I have stock injectors. Could my problem have to do with my throttle body at all? When i had my CEL pulled it said something about the intake tube being bad. But wouldnt i of detected that with my boost leak test?

Shane

the only way i could see there being a problem with your throttle body is that you either:

1. have a hole/crack in it or along any seals
2. POSSIBLY (just fishing here) the throttle position sensor.

i think that's less likely unless you had nitrous ports put in, or recently swapped out an intake manifold or head.

more likely, your fpr isnt regulating the fuel going into it.

this is assuming that you have no boost leaks, you are recirculating your BOV, have a clean air filter, and aren't running the engine in an indoor gas station.

i have no clue. did a search and nothing turned up on the first 3 pages. maybe someone else might have more info, but i'd just change it anyway considering once you start upgrading you'll have to get a better one

This is getting sooo frustrating. I cant figure it out. Boost leak tests help a little but im still running rich. Its worse when im at idle. I run better when im driving, but still rich. Could it be a bad o2 sensor? Fuel pump? Injectors? FPR? Or would those show up in a CEL pull? My CEL is always on because we have the vacuum lines blocked off..
