So I just got a 95 eclipse gs-t. The guy I bought it from seemed to have a good handle on cars and he even had his own garage. But when I got the car home it was runnin extremely rich. And by rich I mean when I have it in park and rev it up some I get black "dust" out the exhaust pipe. and the exhaust pipe oh the exhaust pipe. He just welded on some half ass pipe right under the driver door. So gimme your suggestions guys and feel free to ask any questions.

is the turbo setup stock?? running rich comes from inefficient engine combustion..fuel not being completely burned up...you can data log/check your safc settings...tune the engine as best you can or take it somewhere...its possible your cat can be blown/melted (happened twice to me) but my magnaflow cats kept burning up and allowing black smoke (on take off) to escape my exhaust because i was in desperate need of a tune...i tried just changing out new cats but they only fixed the problem til they burned up again...(took a few years though)...i took my car to a dsm shop and they fixed my exhaust, tuned and then i had them install a new magnaflow cat...no more black clouds and i pass ca emissions no prob now...

Boost leaks, bad front o2 sensor, bad MAF, poor tuning, there are tons of reasons that a turbocharged car may run rich. We need more information than what you have provided. First things first though, you should do a boost leak test the second you get any turbocharged dsm in your driveway. Your profile says that you have an AFC, and yet you mention no other mods? Is the car stock?

Edit: Is the BOV recirculated?

A big fuel pump with no afpr will make you run rich at low rpms

Test your TPS. My TPS is bad and at WOT it reads arround 3.5 then drops off the meter to OL saying it has no connection. At WOT on the road I get black smoke out of my exhaust like I'm running really rich as well.

"black dust"? What do you mean by this? With no logging software, a wideband or at least voltage readings from your o2 are we sure its running rich? Is there a check light on? Is there a cat installed?

1.The turbo set-up is stock as far as I know.
2.I do have a apexi SAFC but have no extensive knowledge on how to use it.
3.I believe it has stock injectors
4.The Car is mostly stock, it has a FMIC, and SAFC but not a whole lot else
5.There is no cat on it.

ps: turbo seems to kick in nice and hard around 3-4k rpm, if that helps any

- tps = throttle position sensor (on throttle body).

- Even in 9 degrees you can test the ECT sensor resistance in less than a minute.
- logging software: someone else can say.
