ok ive had my car for four years... but i am a noobie at fixing it up, i put a body kit on it when i got tired of it so i could feel like i have a new car, i really want to get a turbo and was looking at this
TURBO KIT DODGE 95 96 97 98 99 NEON SRT4 SOHC DOHC 420A - eBay (item 270662645973 end time Mar-11-11 15:16:39 PST)

i do have a cold air, headers, and wires, and my uncle owns a muffler shop so he did all he could to the exhaust, but i am new to turbos, and i really want to be able to spank some cars since ive been beat by alot...

Don't expect an ebay turbo kit to last long. I would try and piece one together yourself and get some quality parts that you can rely on. Just remember you get what you pay for..

You will need a lot of parts not to mention building the engine. You wont want to run a turbo on the stock internals on a 420A. Heres a link to all the information you should need.

All you have to do is go into the turbo section and click on the non turbo turbo conversion link.

My suggestion is since you are new to turbos to do A LOT of reading on them and how they work. You will find that turbocharging a car that was not designed for one is quite a project. However, if you take your time and do not cut corners, it can be very rewarding and you will learn more about how they work than you ever thought possible. LOL! It is not going to be cheap if done right and the reality of doing severe damage to your engine is there.

Most people would tell you do just save your money and get one of the turbo cars. However, if you have the desire to learn and paitence, then go for it. Just be warned that it will cost money and it won't be as simple as "bolting on a kit" if you want to see the BEST results. Ok, well a kit like the eBay one. I think the Hahn one gives you the necessary supporting fuel upgrades and a computer, right? In that case, it would be pretty simple. ;)

PS: do yourself a favor and stay away from eBay for major components like turbos. :)

As I have been corrected on this already by members who have run Turbo's on stock 420a's, I would piece together your own setup and do as much research as possible as it has already been stated. There are many 420a's out there running 5-8PSI on their stock 420a setup just fine. If it were personally me, I would replace things such as head gasket, head studs/bolts, internals, and fuel system components...but with such low boost levels the 420a, assuming it's in great condition, will tolerate the added power.

Again, I reluctantly state this as it's against what I would personally do...but it's been proven to work fine as long as you don't feel tempted to try to crank the boost up.

well i wasnt planning on running alot, just about 7-9 psi. just a little boost, i dont have enough to buy a new car, and having my car for so long i am pretty fond of it. ill look up as much as i can here and try to figure something out

my car has 197 XXX miles, it is running strong still

Do a compression test, first and foremost.

Also, stick with 5PSI. 10ish is shooting for the stars for you at this moment.

hahaha where would i get a compression test done? and any psi would be good, my car is just slow...

Well running anything more than 5psi on a stock block at 197,xxx is asking for it, I personally would run 5psi with all supporting mods. I have 180,xxx and I am still running strong, did a compressions test and numbers were 210 across, I thought about adding a turbo and doing 5psi but at the same time i want to build, my decisions are still tossed up day to day. Also you can get the compression tool at a auto parts store.

OP, 5PSI would be a nice improvement for you, I promise you that. Just do a little research and ask questions on here to members who have turbo'd their 420a's successfully. As for a compression test, that can be done by yourself. Just look up how to do a compression test. The search function will work wonders once you learn which terms to search for.

This will help get you started on the right road

alright, ill get it checked this weekend and empie1 we all have to start somewhere

OP, spend some time in the 420a turbo conversion area. You should be able to find all of the information you need, I turbo'd my RS a year ago and it is a huge improvement. If you have any questions you can't find, shoot me a pm.

carter- how much did it take to finish your car? money and timewise

i tried to ask a few Q's in the turbo thread but it says i have to be in the newbie thread for 30 posts or 30 days

To finish it to where it is now, I have close to 3k invested. My turbo system cost around 1300 and I took my time and made sure everything was done properly. I spent two weeks doing mine, but it is a job that can be done in a weekend.

i think i should find a turbo eclipse... i dont think my engine could stand a turbo :/

With enough research, time, and care, you can build a turbo'd 420a. The easiest way to get into a turbo DSM, though, is to simply locate one and buy it. You can find 1G DSM's all day long for under $1500 if you look carefully enough. There at at least 3 within 125 miles of my current area that are for sale for $800 or less with either no issue or very minor issues.

It's either going to be : Build a 420a and hope for the best or buy a Turbo DSM. Either way you will be spending money, more on the 420a Turbo project, most likely...if you decide to do it properly.

ya and money is the problem. ha, well im hoping ill find a 2g ### they just look alot nicer, ill keep you guys updated on what i find

Getting a new car will mean you have to spend that much more on someone elses problems and all the maintenance items unless there is written documentation of when it was last done or you personally witnessed it done. If neither then assume nothing was done.

I would just keep the DSM you have now and build it. You know how your car runs and you can be satisfied that you would be one of the few that have chosen to stay with the 420a and make it perform!

speaking of which... i quit on tryin to turbo my 420a because after a year with all the parts i have the need to go to a 4g63.. i just have too much knowledge of that motor .. not to have one.. smh.. so i have to follow it and buy one..

i have almost everything needed but will be keeping the SS feed and return lines, fmic, boost controller and 255 wally

but i do have (brand new):

12:1 FMU
Turbo Manifold + adapter to install mitsu turbos on it (t3 to 16g turbo adapter)
6psi external wastegate (i might keep.. maaaybe)
o2 housing adapter to create your own custom downpipe

i may have more.. not too sure.. but PM me if you need anything..
