Hey guys i'm new to the forum and prety much new to DSM's (even though i am an EVO 8 enthusiast.) Well i did a little searching and i couldnt find much on the RS to GST conversion that i'm planning on doing if i decided to buy an eclipse. I'm talking motor swap and all. Would it be better to buy a used motor, rebuild the botom end, and use all stock turbo parts from a GST (w/ plans of future upgrades). Also how hard is it to redo all the wiring and is this swap even done alot?? I've seen RS's go for 5k and GST's usually go for about 7-9k (both 97 and up). So this would give me 2 to 4k for a used motor, tranny, wiring harnes, and turbo setup. I'm guessing after buying all that i'd have some $ left for maybe a turbo upgrade or exhaust, new ic piping and such. Let me know what u guys think. later

Oh and i'd do all the work myself, i hate mechanics :thumbdown

EDIT!!! yes i am a tard, and didnt even look in the tech section for this =) but i DID spend 2 hours doing searches on this subject and nothing came up

Well first thing we need to know is if it's a 2g or a 1g. The 2g will not work, due to different motor mounts tranny, etc. I'm not sure about the 1g, but I know the 1g gs could swap in a GST motor.

if your talking about a 2g, an RS to GST conversion would be stupid, an RS/GS engine=420a and GST/GSX=4g63, so already you would be blowing money on motort/tranny, just buy a GST.

someone converted an RS or GS for like $2,000. I used to talk to the guy on AIM occassionally.

whats the big deal with that?? side skirts, new rims, painted door handles and mirrors, power windows, your done! :p

ya dont bother with that swap. buy one or the other and work with that motor.

hey man....i wanted to do the same thing, when i blew my 420A engine. just so happens my mechanic had a gsx in the junkyard and wanted to swap parts just for fun, but he didn't realize the trouble and expenses he would be running into. if you search the forums a little more, you'll find other threads on this topic. keep searching! if ya can't find any...i'll make it short for ya...you are better off to get a gst/gsx, or ya can buy a rs/gs and make it a challenge to make the n/t fast!

god your all a bunch of choad gobblers NO YOU CAN'T SWAP A MITSUBISHI ENGINE INTO YOUR CHRYSLER. If you want to be a dip shit and waste your time go ahead. Otherwise stop wasting a good 2gnt and go buy a gs-t.

Actually sir, you can. Its just extremly expensive, frustrating, time consuming, and not all in all worth it.

However it, like anything, can be done.

You're a dumb####. I just said it had been done. Go gobble your own choads, sir.
Simmer down you. Regardless of whether its been done or not, if someone here really spent two hours searching on this swap/conversion and couldn't find anything, I highly doubt they're going to be able to pull off such a massive hack job. Besides, you could post a poll on any DSM forum in the world asking if this was a god idea and you would find people are better than 10:1 against it. And that's not even counting the people who would just flame you outright for even asking this cursed question yet one more time.

I say, find yourself the cheapest 2G DSM chassis you can and buy/build a fresh motor for it. Anyone with half a brain knows that its the older, more worn out DSMs are the ones that you need to watch out for the most.

Or go nuts and find a way to drop in a V8 and convert to RWD. That would be a cool conversion thread DSMers might get into helping on. This shit is played and retarded.

Bottom line it can be done, but for alot of money. The mounts are different, axels, tranny, ecu, harness, etc etc etc. In the long run (counting insurance and everything) it'll be cheaper to buy the gs-t. You can buy the RS and build that up though with a turbo kit and forged internals. The guys at Hahn Racecraft know about that.

Odds are against it, but if you've already paid the car off 1/2 way, it's actually cheaper in the end than to trade for another car and start all over. It's the same as a GST when done. I wouldn't do it when there are turbo kits, but the guy I talked to who did it knew the shop owners and got the motor and parts cheap too. :thumb:

you better hope no choad gobblers come on here and see this thread, cuz i bet they would hunt you down...

speaking of rwd conversions... yes im taking this way off topic since this topic is dead... i saw doug said he found another 2.4 engine for the 2.4 swap in some model jeeps... jeeps usually have rwd or awd... anything there?

I suggest the insults stop.

AND YES YOU CAN SWAP A MITSUBISHI ENGINE INTO YOUR CHRYSLER. It just costs alot and is generally not worth it to the normal person.
