i have a 97 eclipse rs non turbo. 420a and i am having a problem, when i press the gas pedal just a slight tap that should normally bring the rpms up to about 1200 rpms then right back down it will raise the rpms on its own to about 3k-3.5k rpms then wait about a second or 2 then come back down, any ideas will be appreciated thanks

we talking manual or auto? Maybe your throttle cable is catching on something, or a sensor aroudn the TB area somehow went bad, became disconected, like your TPS, or IAC

Try blipping it at the throttle body. Take the pedal out of play. By hand, bring it up that slight bit then bring it back. If that works then you are looking for "binding" in your pedal to throttle body set-up. Or see if the throttle body arm is resting on something.

I too have this problem. I'm interested as to what you find out. I'm sure it's a sensor of some sort or a vacuum leak.

The problem ended up being the TPS. Changed that and now I am good...thanks for everyones help
