Well my brother sold me his elcipse... apparently from the guy he bought the car from had the motor and trans rebuild. the issue its having is no matter what we do it doesnt rev past 3 grand. so far we have dont numerous things.

we have replaced plugs, wires, and coil packs with no change....
we also changed the maf and the transistor....
also disconnected the downpipe thinking it was clogged

basically all it does is we can floor it and it goes to 3 grand and acts like its in 2 step or something.... and u cant put much load on the motor cause it bogs and dies.... im able to move it with flooring and riding the clutch but as soon as the clutch is pressed in and the gas is released it dies and u can smell some gas.

the car came with a extra maf so I cleaned up with maf cleaner and put that in and there was no change so i cleaned the other one with no change so i tried running the car without the maf plugged in at all... well it idled the same but when i reved it the limiter issue i was having wasnt there as like it was with the maf pluged in....

so under normal assumption im gonna say the maf is bad but i will wait to see what someone sez on here. next i would like to know is should i try another maf or should i try upgrading it to something.

I just want some info from someone that knows more about these cars since this is new grounds for me and i dont wanna dump aimless money into the car and thats not the problem.

translator? not 100% sure exactly what your talking about

sorry about that I thought you said you had a gm maf. I would check the wire under the dash if you just got the car the guy may have had a safc in the car and just took it out and did not tell you he had it in the car if he did their will be one cut wire that you will need to rewire back up. And the camshaft angle senser or CAS

ahh ok... as far as i know the car hasnt been modded at all... it was stock when bought then torn down for rebuild and everything and it ran fine when they finished overhauling the car then the guy parked it and then after a couple people test drove it then it started acting up...

so at 1 point it did run right its just something has fouled up and is causing it to act like this but i will check the computer out and see if theres anything wrong there

*edit* i went and checked the computer connections to make sure they were tight... I also felt along the harness to make sure the wires werent messed with at all and it looks all stock... im going to pull the ecu out and look into it tomorrow. I would continue on it more but it started raining so i kinda got screwed for the rest of the day

well i did a once over on the car today... took the computer out and made sure all the connections were tight, checked to make sure the wires werent tampered with, found the wastegate source line was cut a little bit so i replaced that, tightened up all the intercooler hoses, and i disconnected the battery to reset the computer and now it free revs fine but when i drive it, it revs fine till about 4 grand then sputters and bog like im hitting a limiter so im guessing its got a boost leak... im going to order a boost leak tester and then go from there... I will post any findings

i had that same problem with my 92 tsi i would cut out at like 4500 like a two step. it ended up being my computer. mine went bad after being parked for a whle like that. try getting ahold of another computer an rying it if uknow someone with one.

well i would like to be optimistic and hope thats not the issue for me but never know...

Well check to see if your biulding boost you should have atleast 5psi at 3000 RPM's. If you do it's more then likely not a boost leak. If so take the ecu out thier is four small screw's holding the case on it. Take the case off look to see if you see any acid on the mother board if so you need a ecu I think I have an extra 92 muanal turbo ecu. I can sell. But I will need to look around don't know where I put my extra ecu I have.

i agree mith him pull the ecu out an take a look most likely it will have some acid leaks in side from one of the caps BUT not always mine had no leaks wen mine went bad so it took me forever to figure the problem out ### i checked for those leaks n didnt have any so i ruled that out at first! but dont b so quick to do so if ther isnt any leaks

according the the factory boost gauge it builds boost.... when its running ruff it will actually build about 7lbs at like 2grand according to the factory boost gauge.

well i will check the computer out in the morning as i didnt think to check for the acid leaking... chances are i would probably get a spare computer just to make sure thats not the issue. otherwise i will send the computer thats in it out for repair and if i have enough money to get socketed for dsmlink. But i really would like to solve this problem before i start modding it

well I pulled the computer out and for the most part it looks good inside. I do see a very little bit of acid leak right around the capacitors so im going to wave a flag at that for now. I also notice yesterday I adjusted the idle of the car cause it was running low (500-600rpm) and now its back down to that again. I also found this random plug chillin down by the computer so im not sure what it is exactly but from the looks of it im assuming its for the radio tho.
