rough idle, Sometimes acts like it dont want to start! running rich all cylinders

hey whats up? first post!
my name is frank and i just bought a 1996 eclipse gs. when i bought the car i knew it had a rough idle but thought it was only a vacuum leak and a brake booster. well i replaced the brake booster and it still has a rough idle. i replaced the booster cause it had a hole in it. so after that i replaced pretty sure all of the sensors, coil pack, plugs and wires, and a oil change. now when the car starts some times it dont want to idle at all but dosent die then the rmps will stick between 2-3 grand, also sometimes the rmps bouce around. the car is running rich in all cylinders. when the rpms get very low the belt starts to scream. this motor is a junk yard motor i believe and the wiring job was done half assed. engine has good compression. im so confused!!!!! is this a timing issue? is this a electrical issue? some one help please!!!!

in a situation like that i woudl start with the basics...

u say you replaced ## coil pack plugs and wires, i would still check to be sure its gettin good spark.

check all your vacuum system. dont know how stock it is so there may be alot to check :) its shocking sometimes how small of a boost/vac leak will affect it.

make sure you fuel filter isn't clogged and you got good gas and a good fuel pump.


rpms sticking could be throttle body sticking or throttle cable sticking, i would check both of those for clean easy movement.

hey, thanks for the responce.
i will check to make sure it has spark, now the car dont want to start unless the gas pedal is pressed., and just replaced the tb gasket and cleaned it, but the rpms dont stick in the same spot, usually bounces around
 
Check both o2 sensors and make sure that they are not broken or unplugged. I know for a fact that when the rear o2 sensor, the one after the CAT, is unplugged the car will do pretty much exactly what you just described. At least the 95n/t car that i had did that.
 
both o2 sensors are new, so the SHOULD be plugged in LOL, does anyone know what the ground wires are and where they are located that would cause something like this?> i have been tryin to find a wiring diagram but no luck

at this point i have read that it could be the ecu going bad, i have the ecu out and went to look to see if anything was wrong but there is like a red gel that someone poured in there. anyone think it could be the ecu?
 
I don't think there should be a red gel in your ecu! Are you talking about a little spot or 'someone put the jello cube from a school lunch' amount of red gel? A pic is going to be worth more than a million words in this case. Please post a pic, I'm not familiar with the 2g NT ecu's but I'm sure someone else on here is.
