The roof of my 1gb talon is rusting really bad. It has already eaten away the first layer of metal/paint? And there is rust under the top layer. Is it common to replace the roof? Could I do it myself? Is there something I can fix it with, such as bondo? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Where is the rust at? The majority of the roof is just one layer of steel, unless you get towards the edges and stuff where there is structure underneath. Also how large is the area of rust? You will not need to replace the whole roof that is for sure. Depending on how bad it is you may have to just cut out the rusted area and weld in a new piece. There are also ways you can clean it up and have it repainted- it won't be the right way to do it but should be fine. Also post a picture if you can.

then it just must be the paint that is chipping off. There is defitnatly rust all over the roof. The biggest area is right in the middle. But if its just the paint that is chipping off, could i just take all the paint off and sand off the rust and repaint it? I'll get pics tom. and post them on here. Thanks.

Most likely then it is just surface rust. If that is the case just sand the rusted areas and around them a bit, then spot prime them and have the roof repainted.

i would definatley try to sand off all the rust and repaint it asap before it gets any worst.

ok, i will get out and sand off the rust. What sandpaper do I used to sand this with? Are there any sprays I can put on the rust to get it to come off easier? Thanks.

I would sand it with some 80 grit on an orbital sander, and then spray the bare metal with self etching primer. Then spray a bunch of coats of a high build sandable primer surfacer over that. Both of these primers can be found at walmart.
