I picked up a roof rack for my RS this weekend, and while researching to buy one I couldn't find any decent pictures of a DSM with a rack, so I figured I should post a few. Before i get flamed for having a rack, I only bought it because I mountain bike and recently picked up kayaking and needed some way to transport the kayak. I actually really like the way it looks, and surprisingly I've had all good comments and reactions to it. So here's a few pics :D

PARTS LIST AND DETAIL PICS

Yakima Q-towers
Yakima 48" round bars
Yakima 44" Fairing
Yakima Q46 fit kit
Yakima SKS locks
Type A base pads (usually included with the fit kit but I got the kit used and the pads were not in good condition)

I have a Yakima hullraiser aero to transport my kayak, and I'm currently looking for a bike rack.
If you aren't sure about what fits, Yakima's site lets you outfit your vehicle.

As long as you actually USE the roof rack, I approve, LOL.

And, of course, your photos are always amazing :D

Thank you! :D

It's a canon 7d, expensive cameras don't make pictures good though. Experience does.

I lke.. looks good, how much did you pay for 'em? I don't need any (got a minivan) but just out of curiosity, it may look nice on my wifes civic..

for the towers, bars, locks, clips, and pads, I paid about $260 and got everything for new. Just took a lot of patience on ebay.

I approve! Anything to kayak as much as possible!

kayaking FTW! :hellyeah:
I like it, reminds me of an ant bringing back some leafy goodness :p Using your 2g to suit your lifestyle is the way it should be :thumb:

That's an awesome way to put it! I do get some awesome reactions to it. FUNCTION > FORM

How is the stability of the car while driving? I was thinking of getting a rack for hauling around a kayak but was a little concerned as of how the car would handle with the kayak on top with the wind resistance.

It's really stable, even with the kayak on the roof at highway speeds. 24" spread between the bars is about as much as a lot of my friends have on their cars, and they have never had any problems either.

Ha! Perfectly said!
I too would be interested in one of these. Fitting a snowboard in the back with tools is a bit of a P.I.T.A.

How easy is it to install/remove? Drilling required? Sunroof still operational? NEED INFO! haha

Well said, a lot of people don't understand that. I was looking at maybe getting a T3i. What's your input? I have around $500-$600.

Excellent camera, I would highly recommend the t3i. Tons of features, amazing performance, and bargain pricing. I would also suggest getting editing software if you're looking to really get into photos.

There's no front wheel because there's probably a lock on there for the bike that secures the front fork to the bike carrier LOL.

OP how much did you get your kayak for?

I'll add a parts list and additional pics of just the rack in a few minutes. Setup was pretty easy, and once its setup you can just flip up the clamps and pop it off in about two min. Also, no drilling (a drill will never touch the body of my car).

Any certain editing software you recommend? I could probably torrent it. ;D

I'd recommend Gimp, or paint.net to start out. Unless you really know your photography stuff I'd stay away from photoshop because there's just too much stuff on there and it's too easy to over use haha

No worries, it's strictly function only. :thumb:

Yea I'm not a fan of those bike racks, hoping to get a Yakima high roller, which keeps both wheels on. The kayak was $360 on sale from $500.

Erm... That's how roof racks for bikes work. You pop the front wheel off, then the fork goes into a little clamp that mimics the front wheel hub and holds the bike in place. Often these can lock to prevent theft too. Then, you carry the wheel with you in the trunk or something.

Not all of them are like this, but this is the most popular, since they're cheap, theft resistant (which is a plus when your bike costs more than the car it's on), and easy to use.

About 250 for the towers bars locks pads and clips. I suggest going through ebay, I got everything brand new and save a TON of money.

Wow, that looks really good!
Your photography skills are great as well!

Good Job!

Thanks!!
