My turbo went a while back and burned a lot of oil. When I put a new turbo on it started making a really bad knock. Could the turbo have burned enough oil that a rod bearing went?

it may have just circulated enough crap in the oil system to kill the rod bearing. Eventually the oil filter will fill up with the debris from the turbo, and it will just start bypassing the oil filter. This lets all the garbage circulate throughout the engine - eventually wreaking havoc on the bearings surfaces, cams, etc.

Low oil pressure, pre-ignition (e.g. Knock) and oil contamination all could be contributing factors. Your main focus now should be to figure out where the knock is comming from and address it.

The knock is at both high and low rpm's and it speeds up as the car speeds up. At first it only did it at high rpm's though as I drove home it got worse. At one point it died. It sounds as though its coming from the rod bearing. Today i'm gunna pull the pan and take a look.
And I forgot, in between putting on the new turbo and when it started knocking it overheated from a hose cracking.

well it does sound like you've spun a rod and since it does not go away it's eaten up the rod bearing bad enough that it is moving around on the crank hopefully not enough to cause a crank removal, make sure you check it for specs don't want to just throw a new bearing on it and have it go out again, that is of course if it's the bearing, but honestly nothing else under the head sounds other than a crank or a noisey clutch press the clutch in while th car it on if the sound goes away then great! you know it's just the clutch plate but if it doesn't then it's gotta be the rod :( good luck!

well I got the oil pan off and sure enough from left to right from the top: the fourth rod bearing is gone. Huge chuncks are in the oil pan. LOL! So tomarrow I replace them put it back together and I should be good to go. Thank God.

Thanks for your help guys :thumb:
