I have been hearing this road noise that recently started and it sounds like its coming from my front passenger side. It only makes the noise when i am giving it gas, if i let of the throttle it doesn't make it.. I currently don't have a jack since mine broke :( I have to get a new one before i can jack her up and see whats up.
What do you guy's think it could be? I was thinking a wheel bearing but my friends on his 1g made way more noise then mine is when his went out.. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You really need to just invest in a jack and inspect components, there is no way around it. You also need to be a little more descriptive for us, there are so many things that could go wrong and so many similar or complete different sounds, just telling us there is road noise is really the vaguest way you could have put it. You have to be our eyes and ears, otherwise we are just straight guessing.

well since it is load related you can rule out tires. can you feel it while it makes noise.. i wouldnt think its an axle but wheel bearing or your carrier bearing for your front diff. or maybe even center. front pass is the trans so i would say more of a carrier bearing. or its the gears making noise because of a worn bearing. will cause premature wear. eventually be bad

Well thanks guy's for the reply, the best i can describe it is a loud humming noise which sounds like some knobbie tires going down the road.. but it's only when i give it gas, or when I'm cruising. I know i need a jack i just haven't gotten paid yet and i have absolutely no money at all to get one. I am just trying to rule out what it might be so when i do get my jack i can get it done.

Grab a hold of the wheel while the car is jacked up and see if you can shake it from front to rear or in and out.

jack it up by the control arm so you dont unload the ball joint and get a false outcome.. if you let the wheel suspend by itself it unloads ball joint and if there is play in it it will show also... maybe not front to back but if you go up and down it will. so if you do that u will only feel play(if any) from wheel bearing.. inner tie rod and outer tie rod

If you're unable to jack the car up right now, you can load and unload the wheel bearing in order to try and determine which side its coming from. You state that it goes away when you give it gas? That leads me away from it being a wheel bearing. A wheel bearing is normally at a constant speed all the time.

If loading and unloading the bearings wheel driving doesn't help you pin point which one it is, Lift up the suspected wheel and check for any free play in the bearing/hub.

Another way is to get all the drive wheels off the ground, Put it in drive and spin the wheels. You might need a hand with this (having someone inside the car keeping the car at say 20 mph). Can check place your hand on the springs and see if they are vibrating abnormally. Shouldn't be able to feel much of anything with a good bearing. Also, a stethoscope can do the same thing and is best option

Thanks for the quick reply's guy's. The noise gets worse when i give it gas not when i let off.. And i just went outside and tried to move my tired from side to side and it slightly does.. So i am thinking it's the hub bearing.
What do you all think? And how would i go about replacing it if it is?

i bet its your front diff or center diff... usually a wheel bearing makes noise all the time... carrier bearings that are bad or gears getting worn will cause that. yank your trans apart and have a look
