I have a 96 Gst with very little mods. Just a KNFipk, Nology wires and denso iridium plugs. I was thinking of upgrading to a Gen1 Bov and adding The RNR standard turboback exhaust. Anyone have an opinion of the exhaust? It seems like a good deal at 599. But I have no Idea if the kit is of good quality.

Hi.
the RNR topic is cold, rolling over in its grave, and is heading to your house for brains.

basically with RNR, the RNR kits are made to order, they are not 100% exact, none come out exactly the same, some midofication of the hangers will be needed, Otherwise for performace, and quality, the welds are all looking great,

some people have problems with the slipjoints leaking, I never have,

I had rnr on my 1g, and now on my 2g, and i like them, no real problems, just some production irregularities, for the price, its not a big deal.

basically, good product, performace upgrade? definatly.

I would recommend getting a o2 eliminator.
because even though your a 2g o2 housing, you will still creep like a mother. porting out your 2g housing would also help, but for what, 100$ more, its a good deal to get a 02 eliminator, RNR's 3 inch 02 housing is 200+$$

I have a 2.5 dp to 3 inch cat back w/ hi flow cat from RNR. I can honestly say that my exhaust sounds sooooo nice. Some times there is a long wait, but i got mine in three weeks. The only problem I had was it came about three inches too short and was blowing exhaust on my bumper. I'm picky, so 40 bucks at Midas fixed it :thumb:

The 2.5 inch Dp is only 2.5 for about a foot, then becomes three inch before the flex section. I'm using an evo o2 housing and have zero creep. As for the slip joints I went to shucks and bought a couple exhaust claps just incase they would leak. I love the kit and install is a snap!! Trust me for the price you can get a great performance gain, or an apexi cat-back for the same price. :nono: You'll be happy, I was and i'm a stickler about my car :thumb:

Goodluck with your choice!!

If I get the o2 eliminator do I need to upgrade to an external wastegate?

No, all the o2 eliminator does is replace your cast o2 housing with exhaust piping and an o2 bung for you sensor. It would be your choice if you want to go external or not.

Soapsuds, Dude I got a full 3" turbo back RNR exhaust & it is pretty damn sweet. The overall sound doesn't drone out & it has a very nice deep rumble to it. After putting it on, there is a noticeable difference in performance. The only mods I have are pretty much a K&N FIPK, Iridium plugs, MSD ignition wires at the time. I got the version where it eliminated the O2 housing. I would recommend that cause damn that's one less piece to worry about & it's a beautiful one piece deal with the downpipe that mounts directly up to the turbo. In the beautiful words of my friends, "That's SICK!!" Anyways if you're planning on doing that I would ask you to keep in mind that you might wanna change the exhaust manifold gasket & the exhaust manifold itself if you haven't yet. Get it out of the way cause damn......I'm learning it the hard way. Your old gasket will leak after you put your new exhaust system on. There's a 4 layer copper gasket on this website for the price you cannot beat it! http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=155
I work at Schuck's Auto Supply so I know the prices, I've shopped almost everything for my car humanly possible & this site has the damn best gasket at such an inexpensive price. If you have the money, I would recommend taking care of the exhaust manifold itself also. Also an upgrade I would personally recommend just to somewhat complete the exhaust system package. As far as manifolds go you can also get it through RNR if you'd like but they are a bit out of my price range but they are also of some pretty sweet quality. As long as the exhaust manifold you get is using 321 material then you should be fine. Also the gauging should be thicker than 16g meaning an 8 gauge or so should be fine. This is the manifold I'm ordering but you can look around & see for yourself. http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1342&

When I get the part & after I get it on my car, I'll post it back here & tell you the difference in performance, the quality & if it fits correctly.

As far as RNR's exhaust system goes, I'm a happy camper. I don't know what your States regulations are as far as catalytic convertors go but if they don't care then just slap a test pipe on your bill & call it good cause the cat will be a bit restrictive. I have to have one on my car.......Federal regulations here can be up to $2000.00 in fines. And yes like all the guys/girls that mentioned above it will take a good while for your exhaust system to arrive to your house. Mine took almost a month & a half but remember they are making it from scratch, literally! It's worth the wait & as the saying goes good things come in due time. The welds, the mandrel bends are some of the best quality I've ever seen & actually the best my Uncle has ever seen. Back in the days he used to weld for constuction equipment. Now he has an easier job. If it rains where you live the SS edition would be a plus. Here it rains, snows & does all the things mother nature loves to do so yeah SS was a nice complement to the system. If you can put it on yourself & take it to a shop were they can weld it for a couple of bucks that would be the best advice I can give you. Cause I mean really why spend half a thousand dollars & more on a pretty sweet exhaust system & clamp it down? The muffler is ok.....if you have an eye on a different muffler go for it but the one that comes from RNR is ok. It's some brand I don't know too much but then it is a straight through exhaust so it doesn't matter too much.

i know quite a few people with it and i have heard nothing but good things. great price too

iv been waiting 7 weeks for my exhaust from rnr. they told me they ran out of ss bends WTF , oh , and they told me they were shipping it monday, its friday, no exhaust , i hope all this hassle and wait is worth it, iv heard nothing but good things about their products.

Memory-X , Dude yeah it takes them a goddamn long time to send it to you but like I said in the paragraph above it is definitely worth the wait!! Yeah you have to remember they are making it from scratch & also they do parts for different vehicles also which are pretty damn popular & are also in high demand. But yeah it is worth the wait, just don't keep on bugging Ryan about it. He will get it to you as soon as possible. Remember if you rush him the product might not be of higher quality. Anyways when you get it you'll just enjoy the craftsmanship of the system even before you put it on.

awesome, thats what i wanted to hear. i can understand taking awhile to make it too. it took us 2 days to do a bodylift and fab a bullbar and some other goodies for a f-250 here at the shop. custom work sucks sometimes :boring:

Oh yeah? I ordered mine Feb. 26 and still have yet to recieve mine. I think that's a bit ridiculous, don't you? If you guys check out www.vendors-reviewed.com , there are a lot of unhappy campers with RnR. I'm soon to be one of them. :notgood:

ROFL ROFL

Sorry, but what Ryan does to his customers is not OK in any way. Yes, they have a decent product when it comes to exhaust, but look at it. It is just a few bends welded together, on a jig that he has made. This shouldnt take that long at all and if it takes him 6 months to make an exhaust it wont be any better than one that takes a few days. He is just a very poor busniness man and alot of the comments on www.vendors-reveiwed.com reflect that.

As it turns out, they finally shipped it out last Tuesday...

That's FEB 26 - MAR 3. UPS says it will arrive tomorrorw. That's 10 weeks.

Buyer beware when ordering custom exhaust from RnR. This is the kind of wait to expect, not 2 - 3 weeks like the website says.

Oh God, I hope mine does not take that long. I knew that RnR always took a long time but a while ago in a post from RnR, he says thay they have hired a lot more people and have made prodution a lot faster, and they also said that their goal is to never let that happen again.......??? so far I am finding that hard to believe, I ordered just some simple non stainless turbo-back with the bullet muffler still not a word from RnR, I even emailed him back on Friday and no reply, because it have been about a Month and 1 week. But hey life is full of dissapointments.

Why would one lie from Ryan be any different than any other?

rnr seems like a great company but i have had one drawback with them so far. i ordered the 3'' o2 dump in stainless on march 22, it is now almost april 22 and still nothing from them. i have called them several times, emailed them several times and they keep promising that they will have it sone shortly and out to be shipped but i have not seen a thing. i hope that this product is well worth it. have it done much business with them but custom fabrication come with time. i understand that but everyone knows when you order a new part you want it as soon as possible right. i have been waiting for them so i can just put all my other mods together at once instead of tearing it back apart and so on.

So when considering RnR and their 3 inch o2 eliminator compared to VRS exhaust and their 3 inch 02 eliminator... which would you chose and why? and specific benefits or problems with one or the other, keeping in mind, i'm WELL aware of the "time" issue with RnR.

I went with the RNR system becasue it is a true 3 inch systems were as some others neck down in certain places. It also really isnt that hard to make exhaust so I just dont feel the need to spend 500.00 for just a cat back with a fancy name when I can get an entire system for a bit more. Also, before RNR was really big is when I placed my order so I wanted to support the smaller DSM guy than a big company. To bad it ended the way it did.

I waited over 2 months for my complete 3" SS o2 elminator exhaust.

I couldn't be happier, it uses stock hangers and all, full exhaust swap out was less than 20minutes.

For people that have no patience, don't buy from them, and order your Apexi super fast style bazillion dollar crap.

I have nothing but the greatest things to say about them, and I absolutely, absolutely am 110% satisfied with my purchase.
I totally hear where you are coming from. I know that as soon as Canada Post comes knocking on my door and I get it, the wait will hardly matter. And as soon as i get it installed I will be so happy and relieved I will be saying the same comments that you are. The waiting game is the hardest part thats all.

Took me almost 3 months to get mine. And they never included the test pipe I ordered.

I paid extra for an HKS Hiper muffler instead of their regular one, and its the best sounding DSM I've ever heard :p Welds were great...fitment was great...customer service sucks.

I got mine yesterday and I am very satisfied with the quality. :thumb: The wait on the other hand... :notgood:
