Reverse lights not working

Ive checked my fuses, checked for power at the lights and nothing. I only have like 1.7v at the fuse block for my back-up lights. So what could it be? Short somewhere? Im not too good with wiring.

There is a reverse switch on top of the transmission. Make sure it is plugged in and the wires have continuity to the destination. If all of that checks out, the switch itself could be bad.

With car on not running

Unplug the connector from the backup light switch which is atop the transmission near the passenger motor mount. Shift trans into reverse and use DVOM to check continuity between the two pins on the switch. Should read 0, -as in there is a connection. Now take DVOM and ground the black probe to the cars chassis (good clean bare metal) and take the other probe to make sure one of the wires on the connector has +12V.

This will narrow things down.

i would try to locate a wiring diagram for the circuit. Start from battery power and measure voltage down the curcuit until you lose voltage. If you only have 1.7v at the fuse block then it sounds like there is high resistance in the circuit.

You could also also locate the reverse light switch as stated above and disconnect the connector from the switch. Insert a jumper wire between the two pins of the conncetor and your reverse light should light up with your ignition key in the on position providing the circuitry is not at fault. If you have lights you know the switch is bad
