alright since i cant post anywhere else about this i will post here i have a 91 talon tsi automatic and im currently having issues when i rev it and put it in gear to drive it. the rev is real sluggish it takes about 10 seconds to hit 3k and when its in drive full throttle it takes about a min for it to get up to 40 i have no clue whats wrong and neither do any of the other dsm guys around here. i thought it might be a boost leak at first but everything seems perfectly fine im at a loss right now so does anyone on here have any idea on what could be wrong with it? feel free to ask questions to since i kinda left the details a bit vague

p.s. yes i have searched on here and the threads that showed up dont seem to match the problems im having

So did you actually do a BLT or did you give your IC piping/TB/IM a quick look and called it a day? Remove you IC pipe and toss the BLT'r on your TB elbow and pressurize it, if it holds 'x' amount of psi for 30 seconds then your IM/TB/elbow are solid. Build your IC piping one at a time testing each segment after you install it until its built back, then test it at the turbo where your intake would go.

I PROMISE you'll find something if you do it like this, I don't care how hard you looked.

Does it idle funny?

:dsm:

Its what I plan on doing in a few days but even with a boost leak it shouldn't take forever to rev up. The idle is steady at 750-800. Crank even turns easily to hmm I guess the best way to describe it would be that it revs like its in drive even though its in park.

+1 with the compression test, thats a good place to start, get the biggest headache out of the way first, make sure your motors good

Compression in the cylinders is 153 155 155 156 Which is still good I still need to do the leak down test though to check for boost leaks

did you ground the ECU and set the timming with a gun from the cam gears?
could be pre-ignition.
or. i have seen a turbo lock up, and cause it to run pig rich.
reved sluggish just like you said.

Turbo is good I get full boost (11psi) around 2700 rpms and everything else is good it's not a timing issue that was checked multiple times and it doesn't seem to have the characteristics of a boost leak. It doesn't buck or sputter or anything. Could a transmission put a strain on it somehow and cause it to rev like that?

so you did set timing with a light?... i dought the tranny will cause that....wonder if its a coil pack problem?

The engine didn't have this problem in the previous car and I didn't mess with anything when I did the engine swap. Didn't find any leaks on the leak down test. The tranny has been sitting for about 3 years and all I did was change the fluids nothing else so I'm thinking the tranny is gunked up somehow causing the problem it's possible weirder things have happened. I'm gonna do a 5 speed swap anyways so I'll see what's up after that.

Issue has been fixed I did a little more research and found a site about ecu's saying even though it's rare a sign of a ecu going bad is that it will be slow speed up and slow rev. I still need to get a new tranny though since this one whines pretty bad
