high rev and dying issues

hello all, I am new to this forum and have had my 96 eclipse rs for about 2 months now, and im having problems. I did a little bit of searching and there are similar problems but i have two problems which i think maybe connected in a way. usualy after hard driving my car will for no apparent reason rev to 4k rpms or sometimes higher, which makes it very hard to drive in 1st gear because it wants to take off on me. this is not a everyday problem. Second problem dont know what or why it does this but its not all the time either when i depress my clutch to slow down or stop the rpms drop of slowly sometimes it will pick back up but most of the time it just dies. I read check the ICS but am unsure where this is, i checked my butterly valve on my intake and that is squeeky clean i checked all the possible connectors i could see to make sure they were not loose. I am going to check my TPS today to see if it is dirty (i guess i dont know what else to look for). I want to thank you all in advance for any help you may bring me because this is my DD seeing as how gas prices are through the roof and my other car is an 91 explorer (drinks gas like a gas-aholic haha)

You need to check your IAC Sensor my friend thats what it sounds like, its on the underside of the throttlebody its easy its you just take the TB off , you can get to it, to see if its working just take it off and leave it plugged in and still installed into the TB and see if the pintle moves , if it does move, then its most likely an ECU problem. I will show you were it is and how to test it also and the procedures.
