Heli-coil would be great or getting a machine shop to do it , but my problem is money .. I have invested to much time and money and really cannot afford putting a new mls on etc ( i do not have a work area anymore so Id have to pay someone . since its modified id have to take it to a place just so they can screw it up for 800 bucks ) ..

The manifold is staying on because id rather not risk stripping more threads in the head.

anyway , does anyone thing if I just retap SAE larger than 8mm ( i could do 10mm bit sae but i think that requires the head to be off? since a step up in sae from 8mm is small that 8-10 )

I tried getting to the back threads but it just wont go with a longer bolt , i think alum has smashed the start of those threads so there is no "beginning" to them .

Is this possible? if I screw up its not a huge biggie , ill just sell the car and abandon the horrors that is dsm.

( The leak is bad and upper right so i cannot let it slide as it might melt the timing belt or something and ALOT of pressure is coming out )

Think its possible with the manifold still on?

The manifold may be of some benefit, as it could be used as a crude drill guide, helping you keep the bit square. The manifold does require a clearance hole for the bolt that is a bit oversize though, because the manifold expands and contracts.
You are going to have to remove the manifold at some point to drill the bolt clearance hole for the larger bolt.
