Retain original Tach functionality using Haltech

Hey everyone, so I’m going to be running Haltech S2 on my 1g. My plan is to retain the original dash cluster and run two BTI Can gauges. My question is how do I retain my tachometer functionality through Haltech? Do I need to purchase the tacho output adapter? I read on some forums people used a DPO output. Any help is appreciated.

Wayne you decided t9 keep the oem dash. Will it not work with the s2 , so your trying to read the speed.
Yeah I got something else in store. I would rather have a working oem cluster for now. I’m going to tuck away the speed sensor and reinstall the speedometer cable. From the feedback I received , the s2 can control the oem tach.

I have a 2G and an Elite 1500. My tach did not work. It would jump around sometimes but mostly sit dead at 0. Their tach adapter product page explains why this happens with older, ignition system driven tachs. I don't have an S2, but I don't know what it would do to run the tach that the Elite doesn't. You may want to double check.

are you using the adapter harness to the factory engine harness on your car? because i am looking at upgrading to a 1500 but want to retain my original dash cluster no exceptions

Yes I have the Plug and Play adapter for 2G/Evo4-8. The Haltech tach output is a standard square wave it sends to the dash which resulted in a tach needle that would jump around randomly at times or be dead at 0 other times. You'll need the tach adapter I assume to keep the cluster working as desired.

I'm on a link g4+ so Not on haltech but I'm sure it's capable of it.
I use an output from the ECU to the dash for tach output. There's a specific output in my Link G4+ for tacho and allows me to adjust the "duty" cycle so RPM is correct depending on ignition fires. I'm also using GTR coils in sequential. Research shows that this ECU also outputs a square wave signal too.
