Hey! Well, my Talon has had the CEL on for a few months now, I'll disconnect the battery and it will go away, then a few minutes later it will come back on. So, I went to Checker today and used their little OBD II machine to get the code out. Here are the results.

Trouble Codes:

P1105 Manufacturer Specific Powertrain Trouble Code

Pending Codes: No Codes Reported

Freeze Codes:

P1105 Manufacturer Specific Powertrain Trouble Code

(I used the search button *go me!* and found that code is for the Fuel Pressure Solenoid)

I was looking for it and I found a part of my car that was not attached anywhere although it had a mounting bracket. I managed to get it attached but was wondering what it is, and what the twisty knob was for and what it should be set at. Anyone know what it is?

If you cant tell where in the engine bay the picture is, here is a zoom out of the general area.

Does anyone know what it is for? Also, can someone point out where at the Fuel Pressure Solenoid is? Also here are just a few other questions.

What is this wire for? Does the fact that it is there mean anything?

Also, why is my fan melting? Does that mean that my car is running, or did run at one time, hotter than it is supposed to?

Hope to get some answers,
Thank you all,
Anthony

well that fixed wire is to your power steering pump and im still tryint o figure that out myself.

check your cat in your exhaust with the car runnin and make sure its not gettin hot or is blocked up, if it is itll make the exhaust manifold get to a hiugher temp melting the plastic since its kinda close. other than that maybe the fan motor is heatin up is all i can think of

that little hting on the firewall shoudl have a vacum line goin to the fuel rail if i remember correctly. that adjustment i think controls the fuel pressure regulator.

can someoen varify this. so i knwo im nto givin false info. i havet looked at that engine bay in so lkong i miss my talon :thumb:

also check your oil and make sure its good.

is that the wire that tells the ecu when the ps pump is in action... and therefore raises idle slightly...

The black thing in your 1st picture IS your Fuel Pressure Solenoid. That visible hose on it goes to the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the fuel rail. There is another hose on it (behind the connector) that should go to a nipple on the intake manifold. The wire on your power steering pump is for a pressure switch in it.

Thank you sooooo much! Any idea on what the knob should be twisted to?

Edit: Once again I used the search button and I found out that the twisty knob is really just a cap. I unplugged the harness cleaned the connections with a wire brush and cleaned the inside of the harness with a toothpick. Didn't do too good of a job because it was cold out there LOL. Battery is disconnected and am just waiting for the code to clear then I will take it for a drive for awhile and see if it comes back on.

Thank you everyone for your help,
Anthony

Edit #2 (no need to make a new post): After going to work and coming home and driving around last night my CEL is still off so I think mounting it back where it is supposed to along with cleaning the connectors on the harness worked! Thank you everyone! You all couldn't have helped more. It just goes to show how friendly the people on this forum are. I have to say it's one of the most helpful forums I have been a part of. I would also like to express gratitude towards everyone here. Once again.

Thank you all for everything,
Anthony

it resembles a valve of sorts..

it's got a knob that turns infinately in both directions... i tried turning in but noticed no diff..

i noticed my friend has the same thing on his SR20DET...

one vacuume line goes to the intake manifold, the other disapears under the spark plug cover...

what is this thing called and what does it do?

pic included...

i see.. so is it a sensor? or by twisting the knob back and forth have i changed the pressure in the Fuel rail at all?

So, if you have NO CLUE what it is,
WHY ARE YOU TURNING IT?

NEVER TURN THAT KNOB!!!!

which/what in the picture are you talking about ?

No vaccum hose ends up under the spark cover. close one is the FPR but I dont see no knob you can fiddle around in a fpr and/or fpr sensor.

upon closer inspection it ends up at the fuel rail(it's cramped in their i couldn't see it properly at night)... so obviously it is the FPR

but what does the knob do? if not raise or lower the pressure? maybe it's not even a knob... sure as hell looks like one and turns like one

So then what is the (BLACK) knob for. For every one else,it's the little black knob centered between the clutch and brake resevior.
I believe it's just a cap for the nipple.

That is the fuel pressure solenoid and that is not a knob, its a vent cap. You can turn it all you want to and it will never change anything. Why would you mess with it anyway if you dont know what it is?

Come'on he turned a harmless cap, you guys are too harsh. Can't you see the humor in all this, I'm getting giggles and all. :D

BTW, nice find Ottoman! never noticed the thingy :thumb: :p

The only humor I see is that a turned knob on a part that is unknown will cost some else alot of money and NOT myself.

At the top of the General/Newbie Forums there is a sticky for a 1G diagram. Click that link and you can also get a 2G diagram aswell.

Here is a quick link for future reference......

You can play with the knob all you want. Use it to vent anger, frustration, or sadness. Just don't do it in public or you may get arrested.

haahaa. thats kinda funny. yeah, thats your fuel controle silinoid. the left vac-hose connected to the silinoid is where most people t-fit their boost/vac gauge.
What's funny is you spelled "solenoid" wrong twice in one post. It was spelled correctly in this thread twice already. That's just lazy.

LOL...I remember when I did that. I was removing it and I started to turn it to see what it does....probably spent a good 15 minutes playing with it until i got pissed off and pulled it off, then I was like OH...I get it now...but ya, its just a cap. LOL :D

Bingo!

i think you have the fans installed backwards. the slimmer fan(a/c condenser fan) with the metal frame should be on the drivers side. the thicker fan(radiator fan) with the plastic frame should be on your passenger side. that might be why the fan is melting, its made of plastic and up against those heat shields.

Hi, I have a 97 GST and I am wondering what the black knob is for in the back of the engine bay on the driver's side is for. I turned it a little but I didn't notice anything different. It has a hose coming from the injectors and also another hose coming from the intake manifold by the throttle body.

I think you talking about the FP solenoid. That little dial might be the air filter that is on it.
