What is this part and can I remove it? I am in the middle of relocating my coolant overflow bottle and was thinking of putting it in this area.

I've got my Chilton, but 1, I have no idea what this part is for so I don't know how to look it up. And 2, my Chilton is so used up it's in two pieces and the index disappeared. LOL

Let me know when you have the answer, Anthony. I have the same part on my car, unplugged, and am wondering if it's safe to remove. I want to say that it's part of an alarm system, but could be wrong about that.

You're right on the ball, Mister Mod. :p CAPS number 84628. Parts number MR311026.

I beat Eric to the post FTW! LOL

Super Capsman to the rescue!

Actually, I don't need caps or the FSM for this one. :p That is your secondary horn for the cars alarm system. This horn ONLY sounds with the alarm. Your primary horn is underneath the front bumper on the drivers side. The primary horn sounds when you press the horn button AND with the alarm. If you unplug the secondary horn, the primary horn will still sound with the horn button and the alarm so you can safely ditch it. The two horns have different pitches so that when the alarm goes off the sound is amplified.

Ditch the secondary horn and make your car lighter :thumb:

And just for Anthony:

I beat BOTH Erics. ROFL

Now it's time to edit the title of this string. I'm sure Guy will come along with something like "[RESOLVED] What is this part? - alarm system horn secondary[merged]". :tease:

Pff.. You didn't beat me to my hypothesis.

And why should Guy get all the fun of resolving the thread when I can? :)

Haha! Well thanks again. The horn is out and the bracket that held it there is going to be perfect to hold the overflow bottle. That's one of my Friday projects before I go autocrossing this weekend.

Keep an eye out for a tank that'll fit better, that wasn't meant to be used where the DSM tank goes.

I know what you mean but I bought one of those cheapo universal ones at Autozone but it was garbage and didn't mount anywhere nicely or solid enough for my taste. I was thinking of an aluminum one from Summit or the likes, but I like to be able to see how full it is without removing the cap. This one will do for now.

I have a Gatorade bottle zip tied in :shhh:. It was meant to be temporary but I still haven't gotten around to buying some new hose to relocate the original one where the side mount used to be. And get this, the cap popped right on! I have a feeling it will end up melting eventually though.

Ha, I used a Gatorade bottle temporarily before. Watch mounting it where the side mount used to be. Usually you are supposed to mount the reservoir as high in the engine bay as possible.
