I took my 1990 talon tsi to a local grease monkey to put in a 16g turbo and to replace my valve stem seals. the price was right so i let him do the job, after everything was done the car boosted a little but not even close to how it should, after driving it for 30 minutes i decided to test it out to its potential, i smash the gas to see if it would take off like a bat out of hell and low and behold i hear my car start to sputter a little, now the car doesn't boost, the rpm range was wacked out, at 4500 rpm it sounded like the car was redlining and i didn't want to blow the engine so i just keep it around 2500-3000, the car red lined at 4500rpm from the get go but the car stopped boosting after i tried to give it some gas. My question is, what did the greasy mechanic do wrong and is my turbo screwed?

Thank you for the quick reply, will check asap, any other thoughts?

As tenn-gsx said above, First thing you need to check is all of your ic piping and clamps/couplers. Also check to make sure the j-pipe is completely tightened (don't snap the bolts), And make sure there is a gasket there. Regardless, It sounds like there is a very big boost leak, As a little one would not cause the symptoms you are describing, But a large one will.

Just check quick and get right back so your problem can get fixed ASAP.

Your not an ass tenn, your here helping a newb out thats respectable, can anyone provide pics of the ic piping?

you need to research before you touch anything go pick up a manual and read it. Again as stated above ic piping are the pipes that go from the throttle body elbow to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the j pipe on the turbo. the intercooler looks like a small radator and should be in the passanger side wheel well

what you need to really do is pressureize the intake system with the car off with a boost leak tester

I checked all ic piping and its all tight, one of the yellow lines that goes from my boost control (black arrow) was placed on the black pipe in pic one, it says to rout that line to the actuator, can that be what caused the damage? also that didnt fix my problem.
