Hey guys, I have the MMCd software on my palm and I just received my OBD II cable today. I hooked everything up including the hotsync cable to my palm and I get no readings whatsoever. What is the problem? Maybe I don't know how to use the software. If somebody uses MMCd can you explain how to show the data because all my slots are empty. What gives?

Solution
Problem solved guys. I got my new cable today and hooked it up. It worked perfectly. I guess the guys just sent me a bad cable. Thanks for all the advice and comments guys. Ya'll have been very helpful. I want to give a shoutout to steve for sticking with me and helping me through my time of crisis. Thanks.:thumb:
Double check and make sure you have it hooked up to your car right, its easy to get them reversed. Also it check to make sure you have it off of pause. And you have to highlight what you want to read. If its not any of that then I don't know..

Cody

Yes, I do have everything connected right. The connections only fit one way, so you really can't have them reversed. I ordered this cable from http://automotive.miragecorp.com. Do you think that it is possible they sent me a bad cable or the wrong one? Need some suggestions.

OK, when you're in MMCd:

Click on Monitor with the engine running. Uncheck the Pause checkbox. Then, start highlighting the data fields you want to view with your stylus (click on their name).

Get anything?

I get absolutely nothing. I can highlight all the boxes I want and nothing shows on the screen. At the bottom is shows what I highlight but I get no readings. For example I can highlight rpms and at the bottom it will say RPMS but I get no readings, no numbers, nothing. Do you think I have a bad cable?

Are you sure you unchecked the "Pause" checkbox? And you pressed "Monitor"?

Can you post a pic of this OBD cable? You're trying to use this on your 1G, right?

ALSO: What type of Palm are you using, and what version of PalmOS do you have?

I have a Palm IIIc and it has OS3.5 so it is compatible. The cable can be found at http://automotive.miragecorp.com/Products/OBDICables.html.

Yes, I have unchecked the pause box and pushed monitor several times but nothing happens. Do you think it could be the software. Has anybody ever had any problems with MMCd? I was also thinking it is the cable. I called the company and they are sending me a replacement.

And yeah it is on a 1g.

3.5 is pretty old. I'd try upgrading your PalmOS. I know it says that it should work with 3.5+, but my MMCD got much more stable when I upgraded my M125 to the newer version (I think it's currently 5).

How do you upgrade your Palm? Oh yeah, I don't know if this helps but when I try to find any computer codes it says ECU comm error. I guess this would mean that it is not able to get the codes out because of a bad cable?

How do you tell the difference between the two. This is what I was thinking but I don't know the diference between the two. The guy already sent a replacement one so I hope this works. Thanks for all the replies guys.:thumb:

Sorry, I posted OBDII but yes it is a OBDI.

Hey, what exactly to you mean set the preferences? This may be the problem cuz I never messed with the preferences after I installed it. Can anyone explain how to do this?

Oh yeah, I am using the HotSync cable that came with my Palm, so I don't think there is anything wrong with that. And do you set the preferences at the home screen of your Palm or after you have started the MMCd program?

It's set from the first MMCd screen. Tap the title bar and select options then preferences.

Give it a try, I seem to remember that causing a problem at first but it's been a long time.

As long as that cable works hotsyncing with your PC it should be fine. The only two other things that could be wrong then is the logger cable or your ECU.

Steve

There is nothing really to set here. All it asks is CUSTOM SENSORS, SPEED, UNITS, AND ALARMS. I don't think these would effect anything but if they do, what do I need to set?

Mine was set on metric. Would this cause my problem and not show any data at all? Does it need to be set on English for the data to show?

:thumbdown Well that did not work. I set it on English, Numeric, or Metric and still nothing. I want to start logging!

I don't think it is the ECU because a buddy of mine used his datalogger cable from the same place and it got all the data and everything, so I don't think it is that. Only thing left is my datalogging cable. Maybe it is the wrong one or it is bad?

i am having a similiar issue after switching over from TMO/laptop.

I know my software and my cable work because i am able to do some of the diagnostic stuff like turn off injectors, check for codes etc.

But when I go to log, I get nothing. And yes I turned pause on and off. anybody ever write up a user guide for this software?

nevermind, i am stupid, was not hihghlihting the parameters correctly......

Perhaps. It's easy to tell if you got a PC version of the cable, It has the wrong sex DB9. It sounding like the cable is bad. Can you borrow your friends cable to test with?

Steve

That is what I was gonna do, but the only problem is that he does not live anywhere near me. I met him at the racetrack and never actually been to his house. We don't live close and I am only 16 so I can't drive all the way over there.:( And I really think it is the cable because I cannot get any codes or run any tests, like injectors. My new cable should be arriving tomorrow.

How do you tell if it is the wrong cable and it is the PC cable?

The logger cable end that doesn't plug into the car look like the one on your hotsync cable and they won't plug into each other. The PC needs a male DB9 serial connector and the Palm need a female. Besides the connector the two different types of OBD 1 cables have the wires (and circutry) connected to pins 2 and 3 swapped.

Steve

Well it does plug up so I don't think I have a PC cable but I don't know. Maybe the cable got damaged during shipping or something.
