need help on how take off the cam gears swapping in a working 4g63 car is a 92 talon awd
thanks mike

The cams have a hex on them about 1/3 of the way underneath the valve cover. A 1-1/16" open end wrench will hold the cams while a 17mm socket on a long breaker bar will break the cam bolt loose.

Sometimes an impact gun doesn't have enough power to break the cam gear bolts loose, nor is there enough room to get an impact gun on the intake cam.

ok thanks guys ill try it that way i dont have an impact gun just basic tools and working on it outside. if i have any problems ill post back up

Most important things to remember:

- Be sure you've properly taken the tension off the timing belt prior to removing the gears.
- Always remove the gears once you've verified that the engine is at top dead center and all of the timing marks align.
- Don't let the wrench which is holding the camshaft(s) rest against the head or any of the valve train when breaking the gear bolts loose or you'll risk damage. Have a buddy help you, or use wood blocks to distribute the force of the wrench evenly across whatever it's resting on.

ok i got the cam gears off how do i go about taking the bolts off under the intake mani

I had the battery out of my car and went from that side under the intake. Don't forget about the bracket that bolts from the block to the intake.

im going to give it a try tommorrow to pull the motor i dont really have to mess with that much untill the old motor is out.and i did take pictures of everything before i started wrenching away
