you are correct in that the power steering pump leaking on the alternator is a common reason for the alternator going out. you will need to fix the power steering pump as well if you dont want this to happen again. you have to pull the power steering pump to get the alternator off. you dont need to unhook the power steering pump lines though. just unbolt it from the bracket and pull out to the drivers side out of the way. then unbolt the power steering pump bracket from the engine. you can then get to the alternator. make sure to take the negative battery cable off first. then unhook the 12 volt lead and the ground from the alternator. there are only 2 bolts that hold the alternator on. the adjustment bracket and there's one more bolt on the bottom side. you will need to get to it from the bottom, it's a bolt that goes through the alternator housing. take the nut off of it and pull the bolt out and the alternator will come out through the top. also, you will have to pull the drivers side front splash shield out to get that bolt all the way out. to take the splash shield out there are 2 plastic push screws in the front facing toward the wheel and 2 12 mm bolts underneath the splash shield. dont try to force the alternator out the bottom side though. i did that one time and i tore the oil pressure sending unit to pieces.

also, what the hell is that picture of?? it looks like a huge smashed rotten taco with something i would rather not go into detail about crawling in it. LOL

yeah GOLDDIAMOND is right you dont have to remove the power steering pump to change out your alternator. I just replaced mine and all i did was jack up the car alittle took off my drivers side wheel and dropped it out from underneath. The only thing that really got in my way was some fmic piping but i just took that off so it wasnt really that hard.

like everyone else said the pump dosnt have to come off. i just took off my right side fan for the radiator. 3 screws and it made access and removal so much easier.

but also get a rebuild kit or a new power steering pump or youll be replacing your new alternator hear soon again.

well you sure wont get the alternator off of a 2G without taking the power steering pump off. I just assumed it was the same, guess not.:D

Yes you will...The only thing you have to take off to get the alternator off of a 2g, is, the a/c fan so you can drop it out the bottom. its not very hard at all to do, its just 4 bolts, and it slides right out. just take off the alt. belt, and take it right out. So you do not have to take off the power steering pump.
