Ok, So i bought a 92 talon about 6 months ago. The guy I bought it from said he had a title in his name but lost it. The tag agency said to just have him sign a bill of sale and have it notarized and I could file for lost title. I go to the tag agency and give them the bill of sale. They run the vin only to find that the car was never in his name. I emailed him and told him about the problem and asked if he ever had a title in his name. He said
"well I actually never had it in my name but I can give you the email of th person that owned it before me" I emailed her and she said when she sold it to him he said that
his mother was a notary and he would take care of getting it in his name. well he never
did and apparently he lost the title. The tag agency says I need a bill of sale signed and notarized by whoever had an actual title in their name. The girl who had it in her name says it's not her problem. What do I do ? How do I get a title ?

do you have the emails of what was said? you can take that to court and get them in trouble....seems really sketchy

wow thats pretty bad. not cool at all, its almost like what happed to me and when i had a 240. if you write a letter to whomever had it actually titled have them sign it and take it to the bank it dont cost anything to get noterized i dont see why they would have a problem with it. but if no one wants to do anything about it i do what was said above me take them to court.

^ agreed. seriously print off everything that was said and take all info to the court house. get all the info of the peps involved and it will get resolved. your in the drivers seat on this one

look into a bonded title, can't give you specific info as it varies state to state. you should be able to find this info on your states dmv or DPS website. google is your friend. or go to the courthouse and ask them about a bonded title. In Texas you just need a bill of sale from whoever sold you the car (not necessarily the last registered owner) and a couple hundred dollars for the bond and some money for taxes.

I just went through the same b/s dealing with three different states and going by from those two to mine. In LA i had to get the original owner to send me a copy of their liscense and bill of sale from the original to the guy i got mine from...

well like they said above every stae is different but what i had to do was send 2 certified letters to the last known owner and if they were sent back to you with no respnse, and or they recived them and didnt responed i had to do get a bond for the title then go to the dmv in arizona and show them the letters that where returned to me and the bond and they gave me a title. long story short got the car for 800 after all said and done and sold it for 3000. but you can get a title its just talking to the right person at the dmv who knows about this kind of stuff. i have had them tell me i couldnt and another tell me how to do it.
good luck

I've sent a couple messages the past couple days on ok-speed.net and
yahoo messenger to the person who the car was last registered to.
They have not respnoded. I sent the guy that sold the car to me a message
telling him I'll either need a bill of sale from her to him, or from her to me.
I'm hoping he's cooperative and will get this whole thing worked out.
I informed him that in the state of oklahoma you cannot legally sell
a car without first having it registered in your name. If he would have been honset
about the title in the first place and not lied about it being his name I would not have bought the car knowing it was never registered to him.

So what im getting from this is that the guy you bought the car from has done something illegal. So if he doesnt respond, threaten to take legal action, and if he doesnt respond then, go ahead and take all the legal actions you possibly can! Don't let him screw you around.

Skip the previous owners, or trying to contact them personally. Just go to the DMV, tell them the situation, and follow along. You'll be required to snail-mail some forms, and they'll have a time limit on response. After that, depending on how your State words it, you'll have to make some declarations and dick with some more paper.
This is the only way you won't get slapped with a stolen car situation.

Ask her to write you up a bill of sale and send it in the mail? Look up her email on myspace if you have to LOL.

Hey i went through(well going through) the same thing the best and cheapest thing to do is to give the lady 50-100 bucks and ask her to give or send you a bill of sale, now for the next step you will either need to find a notory that a good friend or can be paid (illegal but possible) i live in Ok and am currently fighting with the previous owner and the real owner because of a so called friend but thats another story, now for the next step, it is much easier to find out the persons phone number which you can do by going to yahoo and typing find people number that way you can say hey i got some money(everyone likes money), it would also be cheaper(and less of a headache) to go to where she lives find a notory hope this helps

Ok, So I got a reply from the girl that it was last reistered to. She is on her honeymoon.
She said she cannot sign a bill of sale since she didn't sell me the car. The tag agency said it does not matter who sold it to me, the person it was last registered to needs to sign
a bill of sale and or title over to me. She said we will try and figure this out when she gets back from her honeymoon. Agggh !!!! What a P.I.A !

Well, I ended up paying a lady $75 to file title 42 for me. She has 20 years experience doing title 42. Title 42 is basically filing for ownership of a abandoned vehicle/house/boat/motorcycle, etc... It was well worth it and I now have a clear title
for my 92 talon. thanks for all your help and suggestions guys.
