[RESOLVED] HELP diagnose a no start I have tried everything. videos

as most of you know my merkur of the mitsubishi world stranded me at the gas station last wed.

So I have no spark so I thought on my talon (well no spark on number 1 cylinder) well I got a new/used Power transistor thinking that was the issue. Guess what? No its not. I changed out the cas for a good working cas and nothing. I changed the coil for a working coil and nothing.

So I changed plug wire number 1 and nothing

So I changed the plugs nothing

Changed that fuel box on the firewall nothing.

I hooked the computer up to the car and turned the fuel pump on which you can hear when you turn it over.

I have no idea were to start.

It has a newer fuel filter (maybe 1k miles on it) but when I finished the build on the car there was roughly a half tank of e85 mixed with 93.

Okay, Well I pulled some fuel from the return line to see if any water is in the system and no dice.

But I pulled the ecu and that looks like my problem.... I'm not going to write this one resolved yet but I'm willing to bet it is

whats sad is it was rebuilt less than a year ago.

oh well I didn't think it was the ecu since its been rebuilt and I could still connect to dsmlink.

The ECU will still function with leaking caps when connecting with DSMlink. They don't render it completely useless.

I'd send those pictures (and high res full board pictures if you can get some) and a description of your problems to [email protected] and see what Dave has to say about it.

Well I got this ecu at a junkyard for free and it worked up until I got dsmlink so when I sent it to get socketed and had it rebuilt the guy that did it (done plenty of ecu's for tuners on here ) said one of the traces? were bad and he had to run a wire under the board. So he told me that he didn't know how long it would last. He said it could last forever or a week.

looks like I should just get a new ecu.

I would still send Dave an e-mail as it might be cheaper to have the board repaired than to find another one.

Yeah well they are not shipping until july 7th and I need this thing now. It's okay when the fiance isn't at work because I can take the honda but shes at work and I'm stuck at home. I cant even go to the pool to check out the hotties...

I spoke with him last night via pm's

I just sent another email to ecmlink. I sent one last night but without pics of the ecu.

resolved,

The ECU was bad. Swapped in another ecu and worked like a charm.

Now the new ecu needs caps replaced and the board cleaned up with a socket added.


I need this thing done ASAP. anyone around iowa that can do it?

I sent him another pm.

But by the cost of what he has on his website I should of just bought one of his ecus or one from mg motoguys because its going to cost me close to 150 for him to do his work and be with out a car for another week or so.

Okay car runs. Now its sells in 6 hours on ebay.

It was the ecu.
