Please help! My starter will not engage you can hear the fuel pump going and the starter kick out but dosent spin! Iv tried everything! All my relays are good, clutch switch is good, good power going to starter, ign power going to starter, brand new starter, bench tested both new and old starters both good. What do I do!? Shim???

My dads car did this... it was the ignition switch wiring some where along the line that was bad. I got it to work by hot wiring the starter so that you had to put the key to on and then touch the 2 wires together. It was a temp fix but it worked You could try that and see if it is infact the wiring somewhere in the the harness.

Or if you need the car moved or anything quicky.....you could pop start it, I had to do that once :-(

He sounds right on with faulty ignition switch, I've it happen a few times around this site. Make sure your battery cables are tight and corrosion free, I'm sure you know this but sometimes things escape our heads. And can you turn the motor over by hand by way of the crank pulley?

Double check your power going to the starter. I had a vehicle come in as a no start. Had 12 volts to the starter. Thought it was the starter. Turns out it was the battery cable to the starter that was bad. When you hit the key the voltage dropped to like 8 volts. Have someone turn the key for you while you test it for power. Keep us posted. Travis

Have you tried turning the engine over by hand to be sure nothing internally is locked up? If the starter is clicking when you turn the key it could be jammed or the battery could be dead or dyeing.

Iv load tested where the positive goes to the battery and its perfect, with the key in the start position I have 12 volts going to the + side of the solenoid, so the starter is getting ample power. The engine will run fine when the starter occasionally decides to work. I think this maybe a shimming problem Im going to try that.

have you checked if it possible that there are cables to the starter lose?(happened to me) or maybe the solenoid is no good. but i still bet its the ignition switch

i know for sure all the terminals are good and the new starter had the same symtoms as the old starter, I bench tested them to be sure and they were good. Where is the ignition switch you mean the key switch assembly? Is it possible for me to wire up a push button system, what would be the best way to do this?

SOLUTION! I tried adding a washer in front of the starter to bring it away from the flywheel a little and it starts right up everytime!!
