Ok i have a GST and an RS. I put the infinity cd/tape player from my GST into my RS(my RS didn't have a tape player). I wanted the tape player so i could use my zune(mp3 player) with one of those tape aux input things. The problem i have now is that none of the speakers work in the RS. I read that i need the stock amp from my GST to make it work. I have a pioneer deh-xxxx head unit in my GST with aftermarket speakers and a sub/amp setup in the hatch. My question is can i remove the amp from my gst without any bad effects. Also i don't care if those dash speakers work, the sub in the hatch renders those useless anyway.

Thanks.

Remove the amp from the gst. It will not hurt anything. We all have removed it, because it sucks.

you can remove it. but in order to install it into the RS you will need the wiring harness that was attached to it. Y dont you get an aftermarket headunit with an aux input? it would be easier

My RS was already wired for the AMP(mostly). I got the amp in the RS but there was a circle plug in the GST that wasn't in the RS. I tried it with just the rectangle plug and still no sound.

Just use an aftermarket head unit. Hooking up the infinity amp, which isn't even very good, will be a hassle. I think, even with the infinity system, Eclipses have a crappy sounding stereo stock.
I probably will end up getting an aftermarket head unit for it when i have some extra money to spend on the RS, but until then the car does not sound good enough to drive without music. And i don't make/buy cd's or listen to the radio. So my only current option is to get the infinity system working in the RS. (also i think the stock music setup sounds decent if you switch out the door speakers with aftermarket ones)

The proprietary 6-pin DIN cable are all the same from the stock amp to stock deck.

You are correct though about another round din cable. IIRC it was for CD changer

Also you shouldnt need the amp hooked up for th stock deck to work with the speakers.

The speakers in the 2g are wired parallel. The harness behind the deck plugged in should have at least the rear and door speakers working.

But dont know how and what has been hacked in on your vehicle.

And yes with all the work to remove teh seat, rip off the panels and carpet just to remove the proprietary cables is already the same amount of work to install and aftermarket amp and wiring.

correct me if im wrong but the round plug had a at least 2 different ends on it? I swear the one in my 99 gs was different from the one currently in the 95tsi that is useless :)

This may not help Rush, but I can tell you that the Infinity Amp Plug is the same on both the '99 GST and the '06 Lancer.

I had the pioneer in my RS first, then put it in my GST and wired the stock harness back in and put the infinity head unit in, but i didn't know the code for it so i left it alone until yesterday. I'll pull it all back apart tonight, cause i know the cd player that came with the RS worked fine the way its wired up now.

There are about a half-dozen different stock radios used in 2G DSMs. Some have an amp on the radio -look for a large chunk of aluminum, which heat sinks it- and some require the Infinity amp before you'll get a squeak out of them.

You'll be far ahead to pick up anyone's $100 radio that has MP3 capability, and a front AUX plug (which, some of the Infinity radios had even in the 1Gs).

I figure you already realize a cassette adapter will drop the sound quality of your Zune to that of a 1962 AM radio.

Yeah, i know it won't sound as good as it could but i don't mind, its not like I'm going to have the volume all the way up or anything. I'm about to go out and mess with it some more hopefully i can get it working soon.

Thanks

Got it working. I re wired the harness and got the amp connected to the head unit, and everything works great. Thanks for all the help everyone.
