[RESOLVED] New Amp, what to do with Infinity Amp?

I already have a new head unit installed. I am selling my old 95 GS and was thinking about taking out my old system, which is just an amp and 2 subs. My question is, can I just hook up the Amp and subs without touching the infinity amp and everything work ok? Or will the RCA jacks be used in the back of the head unit by the infinity amp? The head unit is a Pioneer ADVIC Navi/DVD/CD.

Not sure if this will help you but my Grand cherokee has the infinity gold amp from the factory and it doesn't use rca's. I just hooked up my new decks speaker wires to the factory wiring harness and the amp powers up the same as it did stock. You might have to hook up the decks remote/antenna wire to the amps remote wire on the factory harness to get it to power up correctly. I made that mistake when I first swapped head units.

i consider myself pretty knowledgeable on the 2g audio..

first of all if you have your headunit already installed in your new gsx, then there are 2 possibilities..

1) like most people who install aftermarket headunits on 2Gs (esp with stock infinity sound system), they do all the wiring behind the radio, whether they use an install harness or not, doing so ALREADY ELIMINATES THE USE OF THE STOCK AMP UNDER THE SEAT.. you can prove what I say here if your dash speakers/tweeters no longer work and only the door speakers are heard and your sound field sucks and hardly any highs, and it seems like the rear is overpowering the front..

2) your dash speakers are working surprisingly and sound field should sound much better with more complete sounding from the front.. if this is so, it means either A) you got component speakers and wired accordingly with the pass xovers, or B), you used a MITAH adapter to still use the stock amp, or C) whhile wiring up the new deck you did something ghetto and wired the dash speakers and the door speakers together without a bass blocker/filter/xover..

I am going to assume your case is #1.. which means your amp is already not working, as soon as you remove that 6pin din proprietary cable from the stock deck that stock amp is no longer working.

so yes you can just put that sub amp and subs in, using the rca outputs from your new deck..

stock amp uses no rcas, unless you get a MITAH adapter, but not worth it since aftermarket deck power is superior and cleaner...

dont cheap out now and have a crummy sound stage, your going to add more bass, your car will be full of it and youll prob hear all the music from the front and it will all be lows.. remedy this by getting a set of components, wire it properly.. or if you are cheap make the dash speakers work again..

The dash speakers/tweeters do still work. I overheard the guys I took it to get it installed talking about it, but when it was done they still worked (Very nicely I might add). So I guess I will just attempt to add the new amp and subs and see what happens? ...So yes, my case is #2 and as for a) b) or c) I am not sure exactly, but it was done professionally so I doubt it'd be something ghetto (at least hope not).

I do know that a few days ago my speakers stopped working and turns out the RCA jacks going into the Infinity amp were loose (They at least felt like RCA jacks, not sure if thats what they were seeing that it was dark outside and under the seat)

the thing is there are NO RCA inputs on the stock infinity amp.. what the MITAH adapter does, it has the 6pin din connector that connects to the infinity amp, and converts it to RCAs.. if this is what you see.. then they used a MITAH adapter., you are saying you see RCA cables connected to the infinity amp? not directly into the amp right, but exactly as I just described.. to another cable that then turns into a multi-pin din connector? if so, then i was correct..

either way you are good to go, just hope your deck has another set of rca outputs for your sub amp, it should being a pioneer avic

Tomorrow I'll check if it does indeed have a MITAH adapter. Now if the Pioneer AVIC does not have another RCA output what should I do? As you said it should and I had it installed about 6 months ago so I don't exactly remember if it did or not. And thanks a bunch, appreciate everything.

im sure it does, but if it doesn't.. first of all shame on pioneer . anyways if it doesn't, like i said, after many installs, i found new aftermarket decks still put out cleaner and more power than the stock infinity amp. i would remove mitah adapter (if its there), let the deck power the speakers, and use the rca outputs that were being used for the sub amp.

You reccomend installing a 4 channel or 2 channel to power the door and rear speakers?

What would you consider a "proper" component install

i always use to say get a 4 channel amp for the speakers..

but in our cars, especially if you are going to run subwoofers, just get a 2 channel amp and amp the front speakers, and run the rear speakers off deck power. tune accordingly and soundstage should be up front with the rear with just enough as rear fill since you will be having subs.

because when i had a 4 channel amp with all speakers inside amped, the rear speakers gain would be turned down so low accordingly for proper sound stage and volume control, i was like, i'm wasting the power of the amp. so i just bridged the 4 channel amp to make 2 to give more power to the front components..

thats why i always advise if you are going to run subs anyways, dont spend too much money on nice rear speakers.

not to mention 2 channel amps are generally cheaper and provide more power per channel than say a 4 channel, which tend to be more costly

Ok, so turns out the AVIC does have an RCA output just for the Subs, so I'm good there. But I can't get the darn Power wire to fit through to Gromet. I read up on your article Red about the installation and it appears on mine there is less room to fit it through. There is a white plastic peice around the outside and a soft plastic material tunnel. Did you have to cut away any of the plastic? Off the top of my head I don't remember what gauge the wire is, but it is bigger since I am going to be powering a 1200watt amp. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm afraid I might have to drill a hole...

ahh yea just go at it and make a hole in that rubber. don't be shy, just puncture a small hole, and use whatever tool you have to make the hole just big enough to fit your power cable if you want it to be as clean as possible.
