hey guys, I have my old sub with a cap and an amp and i was wondering if i could hook it up to my factory headunit. I have the inifity headunit and i noticed a factory amp under the passenger side seat. Does anyone have any information on how to wire it up if it's possible? thanks in advance!

More or less it's not recommended for sound quality. The regular speaker wires are for a higher notes, not low base. Converting it works, but it's like using a subwoofer amp for standard size door speakers. Just not the 'right' way to do it, but many people do without issues and without too many complaints :)

You don't need that converter. You already have an amp outside of the head unit, so anything coming from the head unit is already line-level.

Easiest way would be to use a RCA convertor and tie into the closest speakers to the trunk cover it all with wire loom, put a nice small system, and have a little bit of bass and still keep your factory look.. Yeah it's not amazing g quality but then again, if you would rather keep the stocker your nit worried exactly about a sound competition.. And 9 times out of 10 the muffler will interfere with sound perspective

The best way would be to get a small, low powered aftermarket 4-channel amp for the speakers to replace the Infinity. Amps have an RCA out, along with the inputs, so there would be your input for the subwoofer. Tapping into speaker wires is just asking for trouble, impedance-wise, and so is splitting RCA signals.

Your looking too far Into it. Of course that would be the way to go, but if he is asking if he can install something he has laying around, chances are he's not wanting to spend money.. Hell you can get a new head unit, relocate the battery and replace all speakers, but just what I read from him.. Cheap and semi-reliable is what he's looking for.

Yeah, it's not going to be reliable to tap into speaker wires to convert to line-level. When it comes to people rigging stuff, I won't help them, because it's better to just not do something at all than to do it improperly. The OP asked for advice, and gave no budget. If he would have said "I don't want to spend shit" I would have never written anything in this thread. Nothing indicated that he was looking for something ghetto.

Didn't say he had said a budget, but when I saw he sad hr was using old equipment he already had... I assume he's nit getting a loan out or it or nothing

I wouldn't even bother doing it if I were you. No matter how you go about doing it, it won't sound like it should because, among other reasons, the factory head unit won't produce a powerful or clean enough signal. If you don't have the money to buy an aftermarket head unit, but really want some added bass, you could do it temporarily and upgrade the head unit later, but I would just sell sub, amp, and capacitor and buy a head unit first if I were you. A better head unit should be the first thing you add to a proper car audio system. Subs should be last.

Or you can buy a crossover. Its really easy. You can adjust hz and so on with them. I used to use one on a classic car where the guy wanted to have some modern radio features and still retain the factory head unit. So I ran the fronts to a 4 channel amp via a legacy crossover tuned for high and mid frequency ranges, then ran the rears to a 2 channel powering two 12" kicker's. Its all in the research tho. I would go check out things at crutchfield.com maybe.
