[RESOLVED] evo 16g turbo

Alright, I know someone who works at an auto parts store ( that im in daily ) and he just sold both his talons he has an extra 16g that needs a rebuild. but problem is its all torn apart. he said it needed a rebuild and he tore it apart but never got it all back together. Asking $75 for it. i looked at it on the housing it said td05h ... evo 3 16g and some other stuff. I know literally nothing about rebuilding or re assembling a turbo, would this even be worth messing with? I'm sure I could get pictures of all the individual parts he has if anyone could tell me if it's all there or what i would need.

Not really worried about the time needed to rebuild I'm pretty good with getting stuff back togeather with a guide.


Sound like its worth going for or should I not mess with it?

For $75 bucks it's probably worth it if all the parts are there. Do your self a favor and have someone professionally rebuild it. It's unlikely you have the tools to do it correctly. Search around you for a shop that specializes in that or find someone on this forum. There are a bunch of ppl on here that can do it for you for a decent price.

Only chinese ebay turbos say 'evo 3" on them. Real evoIII turbos just have a mitsu part #. I would recommend NOT buying it, they're nearly garbage to begin with, I can only imagine what one that needs a rebuild would look like.

Yes i could have a shop rebuild it. Theres no local places to have it done unless i drive downstate.

Trying to keep prices down since im planning on upgrading to a 20g turbo next month.

You should just save your money if youll have a 20g next month.

I'd wait another month. Why waste your money on a turbo that's going to be sitting around after you upgrade to a 20g a month later. Invest it in more supporting mods.

If it actually said "Evo III 16G" on the compressor cover, it's not a real MHI turbo. You did the right thing by avoiding it.

These knockoff eBay 16G turbos require two parts kits for a rebuild- a Garrett T3 kit for the turbine seal and journal bearings, and a MHI rebuild kit for the compressor seal, collar, and thrust plate. By the time you pay $75 for the turbo and another $125-$150 buying two parts kits, you could buy a new eBay junker.
