[RESOLVED] Cooling system problem

I've been dealing with this overheating issue for about a week now, I have replaced the coolant temp sensor, t-stat, water pump. I am currently going to hang a cooling fan switch tomorrow morning. What its doing is at a stop, it overheats very fast, even with both cooling fans on. Going down the road the temp is normal. I have done a pressure test also and a compression test to check the head gasket. I have a 2lb difference between the cylinders and it's around 137 to 139. I started having all these problems once the water pump went out.

Quite possible after changing out what you've changed you may have air in the system.

It's actually a very easy check, you might have to jack the car up. If you don't have a bleeder screw you'll want to run the car and give it some rpms after it warms up with the cap loose. MAKE sure you start this cold so you don't burn your skin off or have your face sprayed. Please be careful with this as that coolant will get extremely hot. It's also advisable to do this with a wrag wrapped around the cap to catch some of the runoff. I'd do this until all you have coming out is pure coolant, and no air bubbles. Massaging the upper radiator hose can also help as well as rocking the front slightly. (if it's jacked or on stands be careful once again) It's a 5min check and could save you a huge hassle especially if its the culprit.

You also might want to flush your radiator. It might be clogged or dirty.

Thanks, found it. I let the car run with a pressure tester on it. The cooling system builds to about 10 psi and my car smokes excessively. I boroscoped each cylinder and found that cylinder #3 has a very minute head gasket leak. Funny thing is I still get around 18lbs of boost and no overheating nor smoke while in motion.... It only smoked when I had a pressure tester on it......

That's a good thing though! Putting the time and effort in to figure out the problem just seriously eliminated a very big possible headache for you down the road. (blowing HG's are no fun.)
