I was on my way to work today and my '95 TSI with 135,000 miles up and died. I was just about to make a left turn when I felt a little vibration in the cluth and gas peddles, so I made the turn and the car just shut off. When I came to a stop and tried starting it, the starter seemed to turn really easily like there was low/no compression and the engine didn't try to fire (sort of like when I get the car out of storage and it hasn't been started for a while).
Could my timing belt have broken? I didn't really hear a snap or anything, just that strange little vibration. I didn't have the time to look at anything because I was on my way to work but does this sound like anything anyone else has experienced? Thanks!

Sounds like the timing belt might have broken off. Check it though, could be anything from an mpi fuse or bad fuel pump or ecu just gave out. Start by taking off the cam plastic cover and inspecting the timing belt. If it looks fine at the top go inside and crank it a few times then go back and check if it moved at all since the belt could have shredded at the bottom where the crank sprocket is at. :thumb:

The timing belt lost some teeth, therefore it lost its ability to keep the engine in time :tease: So the car will sit until next summer when I have time to tear into it. Thanks for your help!
