Resolved Blowing cold air at idle

Hello to all.
I was driving in a buddies 93 Talon the other day. The htr works pretty good driving around. When we came to a light and the rpm's dropped to around 750, I noticed the air coming from the htr got fairly cold. When we started driving again and the rpm's went back up, the air got hot again. He said the thermostat is only about a month old. Never saw this happen before.
Any guidance is appreciated.

Could be a bad heater core is there a leak in the cabin, any leaking anywhere else loss of coolant?

It could also be a worn out water pump. Ive seen and even had one on my jeep that didn't have any of the fins left. Had similar issues and small overheating issues as well... when the rpms would drop the tiny pieces for the fins that were left wouldn't move the coolant at all, when I'd start to go and have engine revving higher I could watch temp needle change and I could feel a difference in heat like you describe.

Has it ever been replaced?

If the coolant temp gauge reads normal then there is air in the system. Tell your friend to bleed the air out of the system. If his coolant temp gauge rises at idle and goes back to normal when he drives, then his pump is on its way out the door

check the coolant level. This is what was wrong in my g6 when this problem was going on

Well. The problem reared it's ugly head today. The radiator took a dump. It poured coolant out of the bottom. I do however think the water pump needs to be replaced. It's never been replaced that I know of.
